"normal" is somewhat overrated IMHO. It would have to be wildly out of control for basic rules to stop working. In other words, that same philosophy has worked for a few hundred years(basically, ever since wealth left the complete control of the aristocracy), what is so radically differen...

In normal times I'd agree with you about the best way to invest.

It's not such a bad idea to bet against the $. Its value has been kept artificially since Nixon ended parity, and even a readjustment to where it should be would make it's price increase severalfold. Don't get paper gold. There's several times more paper gold than is available at the various banks. You have to own it physically.

I'd venture the guess that if you make a lot it's because you're not the one guy who worked his ass and then trusted bankers/insurance to invest his retirement money.
