Seems like they are all equally good at action/ intense moviemaking. Soderbergh I'm not so much of a fan. So asshat I guess.

I went with Clint Eastwood....of course, but I do really appreciate both Quentin Tarantino and the Coen brothers as well!!

took the asshat option out of tradition, but would seriously answer either Scorcese. Eastwood still has far too few films to be considered top of the heap, and Tarantino and the Coens have a tendency toward the quirky that comes close to ruling them out of 'mainstream'.
