finally, something on HBO to look forward to....
After the demise of Deadwood, I've had trouble justifying the monthly fee for HBO. I pay it, mind you, as the wife still liked True Blood and Big Love. Still, nothing on that network did shit for me. This Sunday marks the start of 'Treme', by the folks that did 'The Corner' and 'The Wire', among other things. Looks like a potential winner.
By the way, 'The Pacific' miniseries was a gem, too, so maybe HBO has got it's mojo back. I hope so, because paying $140/year to watch boxing seems a bit steep.......

So do you pay for your networks separately in the USA? I believe the way in the UK is to pay a service-provider for a package (cable & satellite) though I'm not sure if your choice of service provider will limit your network options.
Personally, I stick to the (free) terrestrial channels - still have to pay the 'licence' fee though. I use a 'Topfield' (popular down under, I hear, fatman) HDD set-top box (it would never balance on top of the telly though - sits on a shelf underneath). There's more than I have time to watch - enough of it good enough quality and interesting enough for me to have to delete programmes to free up more space on the HDD. Though the good lady's habit of recording property porn and gardening might have something to do with that.

we're with DirectTV(sat provider). For HBO(or Showtime, or Encore) programming, you pay extra on top of what you pay to get 150 or so channels in the standard package.

The Pacific has been pretty good so far.
If you have AMC check out Breaking Bad. It's brilliant.

I never paid for television in my life. If I can't pull it out of the air to hell with it. Also you can watch almost any TV show you want on the internet or through bittorent...
If they eliminate over the air TV so everyone has to pay sattelite or cable companies, then they can go fuck themselves, I will never pay to see that shit.
