The word is that the game uses a lot of graphics memory, about 2.5Gigs at the worst times. So a 3 Gigabyte graphics card would have been ideal, but due to my other criterias, I chose the 660 2GB model with efficient cooling.

Old card was a nVidia 8800GTS with 0.5Gig memory -> minimum settings = 18...27 fps
New card, a nVidia 660 with 2Gig memory -> Very high settings (-shadows) = 50+ fps.
(rest of the system was the same)

The stuttering etc should disappear with a lot of memory, I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but a 16 bomber-formation didn't cause anything bad.

Good Luck, Pud!

Thanks Juha...I'm running a EVGA 570HD with 2.5gig vram for the last 7 months...and no joy with it. Though, it runs everything else just dandy.

My 8350 oughta be here in an hour or so...gonna overclock it to 4.6ghz and see what
happens....hopefully CloD will fly and there won't be any smoke in my house... ;)

New system will have 16gig of 1600 memory and the aforementioned H100i water cooler....

Once I get everything settled in...CLoD will be the first on the list to be run.
I will report back here... :)

I came across a tidbit that all ATI users should disable the Ubi Splash-screen, otherwise the performance can be impaired.
(the graphics driver decides that the program is not a game but a film -> lower performance mode etc.)

Well Juha,

I got my new system installed...it's stock, at the moment.
A few minutes ago...I ran the "Black Death Track" and it
stuttered like a sumbitch... Actually worse than it did before. :(

I then downloaded latest Nvidia drivers and ran it again...no difference.
When I get a good stable overclock, I'll try it again.
CloD is one damned depressing game...thus far.

Guys, forget about CLoD, it is a waste of cash, HD space, and all the fucking around to get it running. When you do it looks nice but handles like shit.

For some good flying stuff, Rise of Flight can't be beat, online/offline.

No argument from me about that...Soapy.
I have ROF ICE edition...shame on me, had it for a couple weeks...
Just got eager about my impending computer upgrade and set it to the side.

Yup...I'll fire it up this week end. Who knows Soapy? I may see ya up there...blowing bubbles at me...Do ya fly online?

A pity that Clod didn't work on your system, Pud.

Juha, I'll admit that some of the fault could be on my end.
Though, after a year and a half...close to $2000 spent...a thousand
plus hours of reading and configuring... I've just about twisted the handle
bars off this turd of a game. It was an ambitious/great idea, that failed.

When, I get my stable O'clock...I will try it one more time...No work, will be
purged from my SSD. Looking to O'clock around 4.7 ghz. I'll know, then.

Wish you much success with it.

I wonder why it's so bad for you, I'm running the Black Death with 29 fps (average), with a low point of 6 fps (when the bomb hits the Hurri) @ 1920x1200, high settings. Online experiences so far on the big map have been ok, no problems with fps. Only that the dots are really close to invisible for me, but that's the legacy of IL2 series :D

Well, I've got my O'clock to a solid 4.4ghz...just a few more hz to go...
I'm thinking?
Maybe I need to reinstall the whole CloD game?
Or possibly, the verify thingy through Steam?

I've always wanted CloD to work... It just hasn't.

Here's a thought, I had while running the Black Death track the other day, when
it was stuttering so bad? It wasn't the dreaded "Epilepsy Filter" requirement, "imposed by others" for civil product liability. UBI/1C imposed it on themselves, because, they saw the potential liability of deliberately marketing a video intensive, stuttering product...and they were trying to cover their butts.
That's what I think.

The last shot I give CloD will be a fair one.
