France summons US ambassador over spying
"The French government summoned U.S. Ambassador Charles Rivkin on Monday to explain a French newspaper report that the National Security Agency swept up 70.3 million French phone records in a 30-day period.
The French government called the practice "totally unacceptable" and wanted to know why the U.S. spied on one of its closest allies."
U.S. Response:
"The U.S "gathers foreign intelligence of the type gathered by all nations," said Caitlin Hayden, spokeswoman for the National Security Council at the White House. "We've begun to review the way that we gather intelligence, so that we properly balance the legitimate security concerns of our citizens and allies with the privacy concerns that all people share." Or in other words........

Seems like Obama, via the NSA, is black mailing everybody.
