Howdy Ruggbutt,

About them twenty million illegal folks.....I was being sarcastic...

As you seem to well know, they would be a huge drain on our system...my tease was about the math part....at first it would add twenty million more folks to share the national debt...which in theory, would make our individual portion a dab smaller...and in actuallity...what you said....

You'd think, being so many trillion dollars in debt as we are, that someone would take away the checkbook.

Tolwyn,

You're right about that....That somebody is us and our elected representatives.....and the problem is? That it isn't Us....it is the Senate and the House.

I watch the Beck show everyday....and he has a group that he formed about six weeks ago....called the "Refounders"....this is for Senators and Congressfolks to join if they believe in the constitution and what it stands for...and remaking/reforming our country that way...each is guaranteed anonymity from the public.....What is absolutely frightening to me....is that only 5 have joined, out of 535 possible members....less than 1%....and this tells me that 530 of them only represent their self interests and not those of the people....and that is the reason the checkbook has not been taken away.....and won't be....until the next elections in 2010 and 2012......

But, in the mean time...we will probably have federal health care forced on us, at an unknown cost to each individual, with unknown coverage and deductables, managed by amatuer socialists, named by Obama....while, at the same time we are all unemployed and being fined for not paying for Obamas Health Care Plan.....It sure seems like a "Catch 22" to me........

Perhaps, "Slick" and his ilk (SILK?) can enlighten us and grease our concerns......cuz a "butt hosing, with or with out the grease....is still a butt hosing." (No offense Rugg)

I don't believe in turning the other "cheek"

you might be one of the only people stupid enough to suggest the above.....
By this point in his presidency, Bush had successfully given the average worker $400/ yr back in taxes, while
their fees and local taxes went up around $600/yr. The same tax bill gave your average guy with a $50 million estate about $1 million/yr back. All of it in deficit spending, which, oddly, I never recall Tolwyn or any of the rest of you getting too exercised over. Oh, and by October 2001, Bush had managed to let 3500 of our citizens get killed, and the economy take a hit, all because he was either too stupid, too arrogant or too distracted to read memos with titles like: "Al Quaeda plans to use airplanes in domestic attacks".

Look, it's pretty simple if you actually use your brains. The fundamental problem, from which flow economic declines, deficits, unemployment and the like, is that our economic focus in this nation changed over the past 30 years. Where we once were a nation of manufacturers, we are now a nation which provides "services".......in a global economy where others can, and will, learn how to provide the same services. We have ever slowly lost a near-monopoly on innovative ideas being taken from drawing board to production within our borders. This isn't a liberal, Democratic thing to point that out....Pat Buchanan has been trying to get the GOP to care about the same thing for years. We have sown the seeds of a VERY dangerous economic climate for a nation of 300 milliion people, wherein the primary means of getting real wealth is investment. I wonder how many of you realize that the single largest source of wealth transfer in the US is INHERITANCE, and has been for around the last 15 years. In other words, we are heading, and sooner than some folks seem to think, toward a nation of extreme divides between those that have capital and the rest of the citizens. Such a divide has historically proven unsustainable, eventually resulting in political upheaval, such as revolution or a harsh type of oligarchy or dictatorship emerging. I don't want that,
myself, but sometimes I wonder if some of you ever look at the longer term.

Several have pointed out that ALL the politicians are the root of the problem. You might be close to right.
However, I've been involved with politics my whole adult life, and see little out there but apathy, when it comes to actually doing the work involved. Hell, we do a dance if we see a 25% turnout for a non-national election here in PA. Most of you that seem to have sudden been angst-ridden were oddly silent when another party, or another President was running the same old shell game. Heck, at least this one managed to galvanize a small group who actually GET IT, that a major course correction is needed. If you actually look closely enough, Obama is trying, desperately, to get the US into new fields and markets for 21st century production and manufacturing. That won't happen overnight, especially with severe educational shortfalls. He's trying to bring back the regulation of unfettered capitalism, something that we had in place until the 1980's and help focus our economy on long term profit, instead of short term windfall. All this sort of stuff will take a long term focus of the electorate, the people as a whole. As I stated, and Dawg quoted,
politicians have little effect on economic trends.....it would take a political sea-change to manage to head us in the right direction. Until then, just expect the folks with the most cash to keep paying a pittance out to keep you all distracted with petty political squabbles, blaming the media, the Left, the Right, whatever.
And then, if you listen real closely, you'll hear them laughing.....all the way to the bank(probably offshore).

Much better than the $350k check I'd have to write to pay my share now............

Which is not nearly as bad as being handed Bin Laden on a silver plate and saying "no thanks" like Billary did.................It's really easy for you to say I told ya so isn't it? Here's one for ya: Those 3500 citizens wouldn't have been killed had Slick (your namesake) done the right thing. Told ya so.

complete bullshit. No one was asking you to cut a check to pay your share of the deficit then or now.
I suppose you would've gladly gobbled Clinton's knob as fast as Monica Lewinski, since he ran the government in the black?

hell, at least he tried. That 'handed on a silver platter' story is a lie, been proven a lie and yet if enough fools repeat it, those same fools start to think it's true, huh?
