Regardless of what happened in that incident with his soon to be ex-wife and father in law, the guy has had so many threats against him he's probably a bit paranoid and defensive.

One of my ex's admitted she was advised to call the cops (pre 911 system) in order
to have a violent husband incident on record. We are still friends, there was never a
problem getting along. She fired the attorney as a result.
