Once again slick has proven that he thinks that his opinion is the only one on the planet.

I've been bitching ( unsuccessfully ) at my school system that LOVES to fuck off our tax money on important stuff like monster sized football stadiums and about as many coaches as players yet still can't win a football game. Cursive writing is no longer taught, correct spelling and punctuation, "REALLY DON'T MATTER as we have MS word and programs like that for the students." says his English teacher.

If I didn't continually harass my stepson with simple arithmetic problems he would be unable to figure out if he got screwed out of time at his part time job. The "powers that be" have been dumbing this country down for decades. The way I see it, people like Barry want an ignorant electorate. All this shit he/they spew about improving schools is crap.

I do think it interesting that the UK has decided to cut back gov't jobs and spending on a pretty grand scale. What does that say about socialistic government?

funny, I've been doing likewise up here(well, the locals DO actually win a lot of games, but a million bucks for an Astroturf field pissed me right off).

nonsense. It isn't Obama, or for that matter, the Dems that want/need a stupid populace. More than likely, the blame can be placed on the vast bulk of the populace who finds getting a real education too much like hard work. Look around at your society, Wullie. No one wants anything but EASY money. I just heard a good story last night on NPR, about apple growers in Washington. Immigration raids are hurting their migrant workforce recruitment, and they can't get actual American citizens(with a 10% unemployment rate) bother to pick apples for $100 per day.

I'll wait to hear your response when this recent move lands Britain into a deep, deep recession. Should take about 2 to 3 years.

Maybe for some, BUT there are those who have no way to learn if they aren't exposed to something to learn. Here in TX, the schools have been answering to TAKS test
(Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) of course the teachers are told to tell you they are NOT teaching to "pass the test", again I have call BULLSHIT. The higher the school scores, the better their rating and the better chance they have of garnering more "free" money from the state and to keep their license to educate.

My son was informed recently by one of the history teachers that "nothing of any importance" happened from the 1600's until after WWII. I thought that interesting and called the teacher to explain his statement. He informed me that he HAD to follow an established curriculum and that was part of it.

The Tx education agency has some real problems and this shit is part of it.

guess when you have an agenda, or even merely a bent, you take whatever you can to faciliate your views, while there is any question of what really is the case in point

not really.....if you're talking the usual breakdown of Western History is Ancient(pre 800 AD), Middle Ages
(800-1500s), Modern 1600-present. In that case, the statement is absolute nonsense. Even were the individual teaching Contemporary history, to dismiss all that happened from 1600 to WWII is ludicrous. Nothing that happens to this moment is not made relevant by what took place centuries ago.
