almost needed those venison recipes....
I just returned from running a few errands. One consisted of picking up a prescription for the wife at the drive thru at Rite-Aid. As I pull out of the drive-thru around the back of the store a good-sized doe emerges from the shrubbery, brushes the car and angles out to dash across the parking lot to another clump of woods.
I thought of Ron White's observation about deer: "Elusive little bastards, aren't they?"

Almost only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and nuclear weapons.

Thank goodness, Wullie. I'm thinking a Hyundai Sonata doesn't really hold up well with full contact to a running adult deer. Luckily, didn't find out this time.....

Without exaggerating. I could hit a deer everyday if I didn't make a big effort to avoid it.
You can't keep them here if you hit one. You have to drag it to the DOW and they butcher it and give it to the poor.

I think the rules are similar here in PA. I'm sort of on the edge of suburbia and the deer tend to head toward civilization during hunting season.Buzz wrote:Without exaggerating. I could hit a deer everyday if I didn't make a big effort to avoid it.

hell, I was hardly moving. Here's the scenario, as best as I can paint it. The drive thru sends you out a narrow lane to the back corner of the building. There, you make a left onto a one way narrow lane back to the main road. So, I come to the corner(slowly....Wullie wrote:As I pull out of the drive-thru around the back of the store a good-sized doe emerges from the shrubbery, brushes the car and angles out to dash across the parking lot to another clump of woods.

and then she bolts through a small parking lot down beside the store building. Pretty cool stuff, actually.

Almost 98% Mule deer in my area. They are the stupidest animal on earth. If you see one on the side of the road you better slam the brakes on, because they are going to cross the road when you get close. I got my Jeep completely sideways all crossed up many times before I finally realized that. Lots of fun in the snow.
