...and the economy is worse, the war isn't over, gitmo is still open, we cant buy regular lightbulbs, housing is still falling, we're a trillion deeper in debt, they still hate us in arabville™, our space program is dead (unless we reach out to the muslim world), the wookie spends more on a weekend than all of us, combined, in the last 5 years brought into our households, we have former domestic terrorists in the administration, we have a shrine to Mao last christmas, we really still dont know where he was born-but his illegal auntie is still here- did I miss something? Oh yeah, I just paid MORE for gasoline than ANY time during the 8 years teh boosh was in charge...

The president has many tools, of course, for inspiring and exciting potential voters. But he faces a different landscape, one in which key supporters are disappointed by concessions he has made to Republicans, and discouraged by huge Democratic losses last fall

When he was inaugurated, 83 percent of Democrats said they expected his presidency to be above average, and nearly half predicted it would be "outstanding," an AP-GfK poll found. Two years later, 68 percent of Democrats rated it above average so far, and just 20 percent called it outstanding.

I think, I mean I really think if they polled those NOT working in the whitehouse, those numbers might be different.

He predicted that Republicans will help by focusing on undoing Obama initiatives, such as the 2010 health care overhaul, rather than offering an appealing alternative agenda. "Being against something is only going to get you so far," Gibbs said.

uhm...yeah..like the elections last fall? Or only "get so far" in some other aspect?

Beyond that, Obama eventually plans large rallies similar to those in 2008. They create showy spectacles that excite young voters, but they also serve a fundraising role. People who enter the stadiums or buy Obama T-shirts are asked to provide their names and contact information, which are used later to request donations and volunteer activities.

On the whole re-election thing, lots can happen in a year and a half, but for the moment, I'll go with the words of noted Liberal, Mike Huckabee, "Obama will be tough to beat"........

once again, Pud, you disparage a guy who is doing a fine job coping with the following issues simultaneously:
1. Two Wars
2. The Middle East going to shit(a process merely beginning)
3. the economic recovery(yes, it has been recovering)
4. Budget issues
5. Energy issues
6. Divisive politics

and, those are just the big ones, accepting the ongoing need for vigilance around terrorism, natural disasters,
immigration problems and dealing with the Chinese and Indian economies running like freight trains. Who the hell do you propose could have done half as good a job, without creating a debacle out of half of them? As for the future and upcoming elections, I'll let Dawg man the crystal ball for now, as a lot can happen in two years. This much I will venture: the usual trend is for a pendulum swing, and we are sort of seeing that at times already. Just the other day, in my district, we had a bye-election to replace a recently deceased State Senator. The GOP and a few conservative PACs flooded this little race with money to support a local conservative pol, and they managed to outspend the Dems by 3 to 1 in a closely matched registration district. The whole GOP campaign focused on how their guy would go along with the Republican majority in the Senate and the new Governor. The Dems ran a pretty liberal local woman, who had been a professor and county Commisioner. She won by 27%. People are PISSED around this very middle-of-the road region at just the first proposals to cut state spending and not raise taxes(which, it turns out, includes no taxes on the folks extracting gas from the shale upstate). You see, Pud, et al......people like the sound of low taxes, less government until you actually have to cut the programs. Then, it starts to get ugly. And that, my friends, is exactly where Obama is tacking. He will force the GOP to be specific about their cuts. Look out, and whatever you do, don't bet against him.

I don't know of a conservative person, not willing to pay more taxes to pay for the DEBT. However, none of them, that I know, want to pay more so Obama can spend and "socially experiment" with their money. It is apparent to me, that Obama is in a state of massive confusion, with all that is on his plate....sounds like a good excuse to do nothing, about anything....Which, by the way, is very transparent to everybody..... He ranks right up there with the Chinese, when it comes to the "foreign problems" going on.....Ya Think?

I'll return the call of BS. Most 'conservatives' went along merrily with the tax cuts that created 'the debt' and the two wars that increased 'the debt', and the deregulation that screwed up the economy, causing a need to increase 'the debt' massively. What little funds would go to 'social experiments' are, at best, 1% of 'the debt', and still, conservatives refuse to consider raising taxes, which are the only means you will ever get rid of 'the debt'.
