Automakers Warn of Huge Job Losses Under Obama Fuel Efficiency Plan

Automakers are pushing back against an Obama administration proposal that would almost double vehicle fuel-efficiency standards, launching a new ad campaign warning of hundreds of thousands of job losses across the country.
The White House has long been negotiating with automakers and environmentalists over the enormous increase in fuel efficiency standards. But the automakers, who say the standards would stagger the auto industry, appear to be losing faith in the possibility of a compromise.

So...why did he loan the car manufacturers all that money (billions) (TARP)?
Oh, I get it....He was bankrupting our country and unemploying the citizens..
What a stupid move on his part....The unions put him in his office....
Did Slick insinuate...that both he and his daughter were devoted to his re-election campaign?

Old Pudfark sez: " America is a free country...and it damn well better be...cuz unemployed people can't buy shit. "

Pudfark sez: " The only thing Obama can drive? . . . A stake through the heart of our country... "

We had a number of 40 mpg+ Diesel cars on the road here in the US 30 years ago.
Emissions regs and lack of public intrest did them in.
There are minor issues with Diesels in cold climates like here in NH.
Trouble cold starting and excessive bearing wear in cold weather starts are an issue
that can not be dealt with 100%

I had a Diesel Chevy Chevette back in the mid 80's. It was a cold blooded bitch
but ran great and delivered 40+ mpg all the time. Corrosion did it in. The engine
ran great when I gave it away. Isuzu diesel I believe.

I can remember driving a gas powered chevette...back in 1974...
It belonged to the bank where I worked part time...college days...

It was new and was the worst piece of crap I had ever driven, also
was the first new car I had ever driven....probably, everybody who
drove it...dogged it.

Every time I think of a hybrid vehicle?
I think of that crappy chevette...
