most of the issues that were hinted at here have long been the subject of proposed solutions by me, and others here. Unfortunately, the database of much of that is history, but I'm not going to use this thread to itemize. My point has been that to whine about what is wrong and do nothing to right it is, well, stupid.
It helps to have access, and the sad truth is that access has become very unequal in the country. HOWEVER, there are things that can be very effective:

1. Get involved. With politics, civic organizations or other activist communities.

2. Remember, local policies have by FAR more impact in your life than Federal. It's the way our system is
set up. Hell, for most people, their local School Board might have more to say about the health, safety
and economy of the place they live than much of anything else.

3. If you find a political party you can deal with, join it, and work your ass off for them. You might be
surprised how you can get the ear of very influential people, with this simple act.

4. If you despise the current two major parties, work to create an alternative. Google will point you to a
few legitimate, serious players. Once again, be prepared to work(see upcoming reply to Fatman)

5. Support the hell out of ALL independant media, and treasure the few left without an ax to grind for
a major party. They are out there, and without them, we're all in deep shit.
Here is what I think: There are two types of Democrats......Socialist Democrats and plain old Democrats....and the difference between them? Socialist Democrats know exactly what they are doing...and plain old Democrats don't have a clue, they are just tagging along.....Which are You?
or, as an alternative, cling to this sort of pathetic, knee-jerk, shallow rhetoric. And, resign yourself to the role of permanent bootlicker for the rich.

yes, Fatman, you are right. However, the People still hold a huge number of outlets, should they actually get on the same page, to fight the good fight. You see, Pudfark doesn't get that 'self-determination' in the America of 2009 is an illusuion, sold by people who know that pre-determination explains 99% of the reality, to folks that just have to believe that old Horatio Alger stuff. By ensuring a near constant battle of ideologies between loons at the extremes, the power elite guarantees that the People will never 'get on the same page'. Unless, maybe, after it's too late........
The sad reality is that the average American is too lazy to do much of anything that requires work to achieve. If you can't fix the problem by calling your Congressman, run to the Interweb and whine. There,
that'll fix it!

Bravo Slick !

You have just stated what should be a given in ANY democracy or free thinking country.

I was brought up in an aspirational working class family, we didn't just moan about stuff, we went out and protested about it. Not as Commies ( in Scotland no one is a Commie ) but as people taking their proper place in a democracy.

One year when I was 20 something, I stupidly declared that I wasn't going to vote in a local election as it wouldn't make a difference!. My old man went mental, telling me how people had died for my right to vote, and he was 100 percent right to call me out on it. :)

You don't miss tap water, until the well runs dry, and it's the same with democracy.

In fact, if you don't take part in voting/democracy, you have no moral right to complain about it. Even if it is swayed or corrupt, you need to make your mark, then, call it out.

by the way. Illustrating my point: go back and click the link that ruggie cites in his initial post.
Look at the sponsor of this 'news' item--Valero, an oil conglomerate. For those of you old enough to
remember the RCA Victor brand, Ruggie is truly "His Master's Voice".

Why wouldn't an oil company want to see lower taxes? The fact is that we can only afford to buy so much gas. People have shown they will drive less and buy less when gas is $4 a gallon compared to $2 a gallon. Valero would like to sell gas. More taxes equal less gas sold. When it benefits the public then you can call it coincidence or whatnot. Whatever works for you. Frankly, I'd prefer if I'm going to spend a dollar I'd prefer to see something for that dollar rather than let the Fed spend it for me with nothing to show for it.

And while you're pulling the bait and switch you'll notice that regardless of who sponsored the news item, that it is indeed a true and factual news item. Nice try, that was number 15 from the DNC playbook.............

Howdy Slick,

I said "Here is what I think: There are two types of Democrats......Socialist Democrats and plain old Democrats....and the difference between them? Socialist Democrats know exactly what they are doing...and plain old Democrats don't have a clue, they are just tagging along.....Which are You?"

You answered "or, as an alternative, cling to this sort of pathetic, knee-jerk, shallow rhetoric. And, resign yourself to the role of permanent bootlicker for the rich."

That is how you responded to my question....and that is a definitive answer to me....You are of the Socialist persuasion....and lacking the OEM male equipment to come out and declare it....much like your brethren....nuff said about that....

Try this on for size....y'all have yet to rewrite french history....read up on how they treated the Nazi collaborators after the war....and expect the same for you and yours....don't worry. its history...and if you rewrite it....you won't have any worries....right? Just let that security camera defend you and yours....cuz the cops won't and the military can't....have a nice day..........and enjoy it while it lasts...

When the first amendment fails....the second amendment comes into play...and that is the order of business as written in our Bill of Rights....and Slick, you and yours are exhausting the first so quickly that some impatient folks may act prematurely on the second....I hope not, because true civility requires the first....

Slick, I see that you claim "Pennslyvania" and Virginia as to where you are from....Go and visit "Gettysburg" and then Arlington cemetary....and then maybe, you might have an understanding of words like yours vs deeds like theirs....cuz when it gets "right down to it"....blood has more value than rhetoric.... I have been to both places....and still to this day...40 something years later....it knocks the breath out of me when I remember back then.... I really hope that you have not been to either place and that you now go there....because, afterwards, if you don't feel something similar....you don't deserve to be an American........

Old Pudfark...who sez, serve your country...not the current pricks running it......

Pudfark, I've been to both Gettysburg and Arlington, not to mention a host of other places significant to the Revolution and Civil War. Those men fought and died for a nation that was informed, literate and caring, both about their fellow countrymen and generations to come. I dare say the great majority would be sickened by the sort of ignorance shown in the rest of your post(loss of first amendment, due to the government?? sheesh!), and the overall tone of what passes for an 'informed populace'. Your post does nothing to refute my points. Either get off your ass and work for your country, or let your masters run it for their perpetual privilege.

I am, firmly, a believer in Capitalism, but in regulated Capitalism(go back and look at how the economy was regulated in the 1950's, for example). The removal of regulations, started in motion by one Ronald Raygun, was a gift from heaven for the elite in this nation.
Further, this gift has been added to ever since by Dems and Republicans, as we move to a nation Of the Rich, for the Rich. In my lifetime, I have yet to see any of my childhood friends, who grew up quite confortable, go backwards economically. At the same time, I've seen the state of many working people I know decline or stagnate. Is this what those souls at Arlington or Gettysburg intended for a nation??

While they may blow smoke up your proverbial look at what they promise and say then take into account the follow thru or lack thereof, if it isnt in their best interests it wont happen and by best interests we are talking money and the next vote

Slick, I see that you confirm my accusation...by not denying it...and that is all anybody reading this thread needs to really know at this juncture... I really don't understand your concern about others having more money than you...although your arguement for those incapable of earning more, should be given more, is compelling...especially if you're one of them? So, Slick all of those honorable folks buried at Arlington and all over our country/world died for your right to publicly drool your drivel....to whine and complain as you see fit....All of them were in harms way to protect our Constitution as was written and implemented at the time of their sacrafice...To fundamentally change our Constitution as you promote here and elsewhere is to dishonor them....and that is what makes you a Self Serving Socialist Democrat Scumbag....undeniably. 8-)

Old Pudfark....who sez, if'n it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and duck sign is present? It r a duck.
