Georgia Works: Obama Plan To Let Jobless Work For Free

WASHINGTON -- While major parts of President Barack Obama's jobs plan are being met with hostility on Capitol Hill, at least one element was welcomed by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), chairman of the House Budget Committee, on Sunday. That's the president's plan to allow businesses to hire the long-term unemployed for a limited period of time for free.

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday," Ryan raised the plan, modeled after a state program called Georgia Works, in response to a question about aid to states to prevent layoffs of first responders, teachers and other public employees. "We just don't think we should be bailing out state governments," he said. "That's the constitutional responsibility of state governments, not federal governments."

But, he added, he may end up supporting Obama's proposal to expand Georgia Works.
"The Georgia plan sounds pretty interesting, and that's unemployment reform," said Ryan. Much like welfare reform required recipients to show up at job centers or perform other tasks in exchange for aid, "unemployment reform" would require labor for aid.

HuffPost's Arthur Delaney previously found that while the program is popular with businesses that get the free labor, there is little data to recommend it.

About the incipient failure of "keeping inside money in" vs
"bringing outside (foreign) money in" ?

The military tried this after Vietnam...in an attempt to retrain soldiers for civilian employment...it was
an abject failure then...as it will be now....Many of you may not remember, that the U.S. Military was considerably "down sized" after Vietnam...The unemployed rate was abysmal...as several hundred thousand
young men were dumped on the U.S. economy over the course of a year or so....Failure then and Failure now.

The US are owned by the banks. The goal here is to borrow money because that's how they make money. The more the US are in debt the more they will charge you. What's not to like for them?

For this very reason Valery Giscard d'Estaing made a law pass that forbid the French gvt to borrow money from the Bank of France at zero or very low interest rates. The french government was hence forced to borrow money on the financial markets. Meanwhile banks can borrow money from the Bank of France at 1%.

Im all for it, long term unemployed getting s/s being pawned out to buisness's they get some skills and the government dime which they would get anyway, and it just might give them a chance to enter the job market
