Reid: 'Private Sector Jobs Have Been Doing Just Fine'

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Wednesday that it's critical to pass legislation for hiring teachers and police because public sector employees are losing their jobs while "private sector jobs have been doing just fine."

actually, if you look at the numbers, Reid is correct. We have been hemorraging public sector jobs, due to layoffs of local workers,
state workers and some federal workers. Had State governments not slashed jobs, I saw it calculated, we would have unemployment down around 8%.

I will take that as your tacit agreement that 'Private Sector Jobs Have Been Doing Just Fine'....
Sorta makes a fella wonder...why the states and locals? Cut all them jobs? Maybe, just maybe, it had
something to do with the drop in private sector income? Or? Maybe, loss of revenue from taxes on property,
controlled by the Fed Govt....fannie & freddie? Anyway, it's nice to know...for everybody, that approx. 2% of the unemployed is public sector....and that's more important....

Reid's Comment on Private Sector 'Doing Fine' Puts Him Out on a Limb

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s curious claim this week that “private sector jobs are doing just fine” has given Republicans more ammunition against President Obama’s jobs bill and led Democrats to distance themselves from the statement.

Austan Goolsbee, a former policy adviser to Obama, said Thursday he would “disagree a little” with Reid on that point.

“I think at this moment, the government still has an important role to play,” he told MSNBC. “It’s to get the private sector going. And we can do that with tax cuts and incentives. We can do that with a focus on infrastructure, focus on education. That’s the only sustainable growth that we’re going to get, and that’s where I am.”
