Obama in action...again. An $89,000 car which was sold for $40,000 is now being
discounted....an additional 25%....It just makes a taxpayer proud.
GM offers big discounts to boost Volt sales
"General Motors rolled out the Chevrolet Volt two years ago with lofty sales goals and the promise of a new technology that someday would help end America's dependence on oil.
So it seemed like a good thing in August when sales of the $40,000 car set a monthly record of 2,800. But a closer look shows that things aren't what they seem for the cutting-edge car.
Sales rose mostly because of discounts of almost $10,000, or 25 percent of the Volt's sticker price, according to figures from TrueCar.com, an auto pricing website. Other pricing services gave similar numbers, and dealers confirmed that steeply discounted Volts are selling better than a few months ago."

Oh...so you "feel" different....Which, excludes you from thinking..
Or knowing...
You must like the idea presented by Obama/GM? Do you own a Volt? Or, are ya
gonna get a deal on one now?
Cut and Paste is like reading a book...if ya can read?
Comprehend?
Apply?
Then again, some folks gotta be told what to think.
You're one of them.

This is Obama's fault that people don't buy the car?
Americans are stupid, and would rather whine about the price of gas.

Re: Everybody gets a charge....
Yes, it's Obama's fault, and yes the cost of energy is going up as the Obama administration had PLANNED. Of course you have to have an active interest to discover the shallowly buried, underlying connections here....

Re: Everybody gets a charge....
tell me how the Obama administration planned, or even has the slightest control over a commodity whose price is set by investors(speculators), and his risen and fallen throughout the past 4 years? The low price in the past 5 years was after the housing bubble broke, and the speculators had less money to speculate with, and high prices tend to follow stuff like Israeli saber rattling at Iran, which Obama tries to keep a lid on. Your argument, Barfly, is, in short, Bullshit.
Re: Everybody gets a charge....
You over value investors and under value supply and demand. Restricting oil access and coal fired plants. Supply an demand - the Obama administration stated that under their plans, energy prices would necessarily skyrocket. They seemed to have thought they could affect the market for energy. Have you heard of regulation? No piplines, no drilling on federal land, no such thing as 'clean coal', no Gulf permits. As you are not curious, maybe you will take some direction? Look up EPA and coal plant shutdowns. No, I will not do it for you.

Re: Everybody gets a charge....
No gulf permits? The number of active permits is at an all-time high. No such thing as 'clean coal'? You clearly haven't read the DOE proposals for clean coal usage. No pipelines? Oh, because the only one for oil proposed in the past 4 years was aimed through a major aquifer? Geez! Find me, if you will, where ANYONE in the administration stated that prices would skyrocket. Any one.
The bottom line is this, and I've been a petroleum investor for decades: Supply is finite(in terms of readily recoverable oil), demand is soaring worldwide, the commodity is traded worldwide. You are lucky that a lot of European players are still hurting, or else you would see $125/bbl oil. Obama has very little to say about the matter, nor would any politician. It's a global marketplace, and China and India are starting to play the game. Get used to it.
Don't believe everything you hear about massive domestic supply. We have very little oil that doesn't cost a shitload to bring up.
Couple that fact with the matching fact that no one seems to want to build refining capacity, and gasoline becomes even more of an issue than oil itself.
