I was just trying to say that all the hoopla about "allowing gay mariage" only desacralized the religious value of mariage for people who still believed in God, and that it was yet another nail in the coffin of our roots.

People fail to realise that equating gay civil union and religious mariage is yet another jab at our very religious base. Oddly enough, most people are religious.

Interesting points, some of which are shared by some followers of Islam. They hate their religious base being jabbed at too. Perhaps you should affine yourself with them in your common bigotry?

Yes all people are religious...

Those who don't believe in what is known as religion have their own religion...

I believe that those who claim to be atheist, or agnostic. They do have their own religion, whatever they want to call it. For instance what about "marxism-humanism"?

btw thanks for the personal attack...

nic, calling you an idiot when you make statements like the above isn't a personal attack. It's stating the obvious.
I am not a believer in religion, and no, that doesn't equate to a religion in itself. Geez, get your definitions somewhat straight, will you?
FWIW, I agree with Soapy's assessment, you seem to have fallen for fakirs, preying upon the disaffected with easy solutions, and even easier targets.
Sad, actually.

I don't even understand what that fakir thing is all about but be my guest if it allows you to avoid answering point by point.

Maybe you unreligious guys have no religions, but you seem to be going by a dogma alright.

BTW I don't believe in God.

No personal attack from me mate, just a suggestion.

In fact in the wider scheme of things, it's amazing how close in ideology the opposing thought systems are. Both in the Middle East, and the Radical West. You'd think that they might somehow just be behaving in the same way, and with the same imperatives, a bit like opposing political groups, for the same aims in the end. Or am I just being thick?

Nic, you don't believe in God, but you posted earlier about

Which suggested, twice, using "our" that you believed in God, or at least supported the view of people who do. If not why are you using believers as a point in your argument?

As to non believers having their own dogma, yup I have that same point of view to an extent, i.e. some atheists and such tend to follow science, or Yoda, or some other stuff the same way as some people follow religion. I have major issues with them too. But this discussion is not about them, it is about a clever man like you, falling for the oldest bullshit in history ( which does repeat itself continually and without us learning from it ) and that makes me pretty sad.

The fact that HH actually posted some sense earlier on in this thread, which is possibly the most intelligent thing he will ever post, and you seem to be less able to see that. It's a bit disheartening for me. But hey ho, life goes on :)

As a devout Atheist I an certain that there is no god, and never was.
I think you are confusing religion with what is a belief system of sorts.
True Atheists have no religion, no god, no myths to give false hopes.
But to say that true believers in the truth (Atheists), that there is no god, have a religious
belief is utter nonsense.

I look out at the sky and see no god. I ask people whom believe to
show me the object of their belief system and all they have is an old book to show.

Atheism is not religion, it is belief in truth over the Santaclaus myth for adults.

I have my belief. It is in no way religious. We are the product of 4,500,000,000
years of evolution. This is the truth.

HH has never understood the word............ faith. How much faith would you need if God showed himself?

Atheism is a faith. A belief system.
faith

2.belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.
as has already been discussed, HH cannot prove there is no God. he has Faith that he will be proven right.

Atheism is HH's religion. that fact is undeniable
re·li·gion
[ri-lij-uh n] Show IPA

2.a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects:

3.the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices:
"In reality, there exists only fact and fiction.
Opinions result from a lack of the former and a reliance on the latter."

Ignore is wonderful.

I stirred the pot and the scum floated to the surface.

When you believers are dead the fraud will not be known, because you will be dead.
No thief could manufacture a better scheme. Believe, give me money and
you buy a staircase to Heaven.

You can never ask for your money back, or criticize my teachings, because
you are dead and gone. Just a dead victim, no last reward. You got the same
after death reward as everyone, from Joe Stalin and Adolph Hitler to Mother Theresa.
Just death, endless nothing.

Face reality, enjoy life while you have it, because it is all you will ever have.

LOL dont you find a certain sense of Irony, that every time someone posts something that HH doesn't like they are somehow on his Ignore list.

and every time that same person posts something that he agrees with he seems to comment about it.

Not to mention that if everyone that HH claims to have on Ignore was ACTUALLY on ignore there would be no posts showing up on his screen TO ignore
