Re: The current level of agitation
cool. Is he doing the civilian one or the one for military guests?(there are but two events, as I stated. The one I am going to, which is for a group of folks who bought tickets, plus a whole bunch of 'invited' guests. Invited in quotes, as what they do is invite us to give them a good bit of cash. The second ball is for active and retired servicepeople. It's traditional as well, and likely the one barlfy's friend is helping to organize. They chose to cut out the other 10 eventsBarfly wrote:One of my best friends is helping organize the Presidential Ball - Col Chad Manske, USAF.
including the Vice President's Ball, which we attended last time....Maroon Five were the entertainment).

The "Commander-in-Chief" variety, whichever one that is.

Yup, the Commander In Chief's Ball is for uniformed Military persons. Nice gig for him, I hope he enjoys the fruits of his labors.
Re: The current level of agitation
I'd say he'd task some lower ranking 'minions' to assist in that endeavor, but as an O-6 at the Pentagon, he's fairly low on the minion scale, lol.
He'll probably make General in the next few years, having filled all the squares and made a name for himself. I'll still address him as "dude" however... hehe

depending on my drink intake by the time we meet up on Sunday night, I may do likewise with the Vice President.
Re: The current level of agitation
In honor of my buddy I'm heading out to the local indoor range with my new Hk45. A little CLP through the bore an a few hundred rounds down range should do it. Gotta git er done before it gets dark...

Plenty of white-box range-quality FMJ's were available - shot 100 of .45 and 100 of 9mm. The wall-full of bulk ammo at my range was sold in the last few months - all the popular calibers, probably over 20,000 rds total. Fortunately I stocked up a bit on 7.62 for the SCAR, and there were still individual boxes of some good .45 and .40 defense ammo available.
For .45 I got a couple boxes of Federal HST +P, and a few boxes of Hornady Critical Defense for the .40 Walther PPQ I just bought. Apparently the HST is a more effective round than the old, but still popular Hydra Shok.
I'm glad I was able to find an Hk45 pistol a few months ago, and the PPQ today - both state of the art with excellent ergonomics and function. There certainly is a shortage of everything - the stockpile of AR-15 type rifles and my range, mostly high-end stuff like LMT and LWRC are gone - one LMT carbine remains. Plenty of pistols in stock, though not all popular calibers for popular models. You can still buy any number of .45s; but I much prefer my Hk over the 1911 style now. That thing is a GREAT shooter - relatively soft recoil impulse, a natural pointer, and of course makes nice 1/2 holes.
I hadn't shot anything for a few years... but with current events, you know... and there was a little extra motivation after watching Zero Dark Thirty. Interesting movie, not sure how much 'interpretation' was used to fill in the details of the whole UBL thing, and the spec ops stuff at the end came off as silly - obviously there's a need to protect practices, but they could have presented it better I think without revealing things they shouldn't.
