So.........why would anybody "feel" the need for an Assault Rifle?

That's why.
If the trained/armed cops can't handle him...
What chance do you stand?
When someone like him targets/invades your home and family.
God Forbid it happens to you and yours.

Re: SANDY HOOK FATHER OWNS CONGRESS
you see, Pud, the attacking person will always have the upper hand, due to the element of surprise, so whatever you posess won't be effective.
Proof? One dead sniper, probably as good as there was on this planet, buried the other day.

What a silly comment... so surprise attacks always succeed? Your defensive capability doesn't matter in a surprise attack? The history of different levels of conflict, including personal, does not support that. It is an advantage... in your example, a big advantage to a murderer that surprise attacks someone who trusts him....
Re: SANDY HOOK FATHER OWNS CONGRESS
It's becoming obvious at this point that a gun ban is never going to happen. High capacity mags, and tighten up background checks is about all they can hope for.
Neither of which will change anything. I believe all the mass killers could pass a background check, and a pocket full of 10 round clips would have done just as much damage.
If the schools are to be safe. They need armed guards. Sad it has to be this way, but it's the way it is in this screwed up world. Trying to keep guns from the nuts is a lost cause.

because we aren't talking about a 'conflict' situation. We are talking about individual citizens in a surprise situation. If you are just sitting on your front porch waiting for some heavy attack on your home or loved ones, you either are paranoid, or engaged in gang activity. In either case, no, I don't want you owning so much as a BB gun.Barfly wrote:What a silly comment... so surprise attacks always succeed? Your defensive capability doesn't matter in a surprise attack? You don't have to be involved in gang activity to be in the middle of it. Ever been to Watts?
Re: SANDY HOOK FATHER OWNS CONGRESS
You still seem to be selling the idea that under a surprise situation, you cannot help yourself with a weapon. That there is no 'conflict' because the situation is over at the beginning, and there is nothing you can do... is that what you're saying?callmeslick wrote:because we aren't talking about a 'conflict' situation. No, but I've been to Reading, Newark and NYC......still, no one in those neighborhoods other than active gang members is sitting around at the alert-level readiness to offset the element of surprise.Buzz wrote:You don't have to be involved in gang activity to be in the middle of it.
