Finally.......A Sensible Answer To The Problem
Finally.......A Sensible Answer To The Problem
From a poster on one of my muzzleloader forums.
I have been meaning to share this with you for a few weeks & I just keep forgetting. One of the local schools has gotten together with their local police dept & ALL teachers & administrators are undergoing rigorous training to be allowed to carry concealed in the school. This is with the full support of the board & the teachers! They are not only being weapons trained, but also physical combat trained, as well as being trained to try & diffuse if at all possible. They will all become Reserve officers thereby eliminating the carry restrictions, the police dept will provide all of the guns, & they all will have to retrain once a year.
Our state congress has gotten wind of this & are now looking at implementing this plan statewide.

That is awesome.... now they just need some way of monitoring / identifying individuals who are prescribed psychotropic drugs, just as felons, child molesters etc, and prevent their legal access to guns.

Re: Finally.......A Sensible Answer To The Problem
sensible my ass......I would have my kid out of that school system ASAP. Why? Because I want my(well paid out of my pocket) educators to focus on EDUCATION of my town's children, not on Defensive Strategies, Weapons training, etc. EDUCATION is what I want my schools to do, not some half-ass, goofy response to violence. Hell, I don't even want armed police presence in the lower grade schools(it would frighten young kids at the exact time you wish them to like going to school), but would far prefer that option to armed freaking teachers. This plan is a one-way ticket to a mediocre school system that weeds out the gentler, more cerebral educators, which are often the most effective.
Barfly touches on some far more real solutions, which, of course no one will address, because it doesn't get the hype. Good point, Barfly.

Buzz, Texas has done that in the past and more schools are doing it now.
I'd really be surprised...if Colorado does it.
The interesting part of Slick's argument is that all training of the Teachers who volunteer is done outside of school hours, it don't take away from the kids.
Kinda funny to me that it's ok for a Teach to take first aid classes and it may be
required in places, but no classes for defense? Throw me down for arguing "common sense"....No one "armed" in a school, should be in uniform.(Period) It should never be commonly known? Who is or is not armed in a school. However, if Slick wants to argue/discuss the point that the Teach's ain't smart enough or responsible enough?
I might? Have to throw the towel in and holler calf rope...he might could be right.

Buzz, I believe...has always been that way.Reservoir_Dog wrote: Look what you're becoming.
Sorta makes me wonder....how many "School Marm's" was
armed...150 years ago? The same reasoning, would apply now, it seems.

Re: Finally.......A Sensible Answer To The Problem
bullshit, education IS education, and further failing educational systems are FAR more dangerous than the random threat of violence. Because, those issues aren't random, they are nationwide, and further distracting the staff with nonsense like this is tantamount to concession of 2nd rate status for generations to come.Buzz wrote:Nothing makes you happy slick. Re: Finally.......A Sensible Answer To The Problem
it's not the training time(although most good teachers use their after class hours to prepare and counsel), it's the additional focus while in school on stuff like firearm safety, and security issues. Teaching alone is a difficult enough job to do well.Pudfark wrote:Buzz, Texas has done that in the past and more schools are doing it now.

most schools have a handful of trained first aid staff, as do most workplaces. Not everyone.Kinda funny to me that it's ok for a Teach to take first aid classes and it may be

not a question of inherent ability, but of FOCUS. We need to focus on education in the US from pre-school through grad-school. To dilute that, or sully that in any way is not a rational, nor sensible response.Throw me down for arguing "common sense"....No one "armed" in a school, should be in uniform.(Period) It should never be commonly known? All of this makes me wonder how the Israelis manage to protect
their children? Who are arguably a more "popular" target for
terrorism.
Seems to me those who take a genuine interest in the welfare of our kids
and their future, would take an interest in protecting them.
If in fact, the educators, are not educable? Maybe they are in the wrong field.
I agree, the world's a little different in some respects. Though, the dangers have
always been the same. The workable solutions, the same. No amount of verbiage
will change that and certainly, no law will.
