And me who thort the US were the land of democracy, justice & all that sort of BS.
Pretty hard to claim the moral high ground in the "war on terror".
Next thing you know they will detain people attempting to defend the constitution against the administration & keep them out of reach for 10 years without a trial, or without people even knowing fuck all about the disappearances.

The NYT it not exactly the bastion of truth in print

Opinions result from a lack of the former and a reliance on the latter."

I don't care if the story is true or not, and to be frank I don't think it is important at all. The point is the guys are being detained without trial. If your state can do that you're in deep shit when you don't agree with your government anymore. What tells you they won't just do the same to you?CUDA wrote:"IF" you believe the story

Don't wanna surrender your M4 & your 1911? You're a terrorist & you go to gitmo (or some other place) without trial.
edit: well that beats having your two children slaughtered because you were going to give names about the LIBOR scandal though.

Well...first ya gotta determine?
Are they a criminal?
Are they a POW?
Are they "cancer"?
I see that "article" as just another "liberal whine".
I don't understand....why they just didn't turn them all loose
and blame it on sequestration...

I cant remember off the top of my head and really i cant be bothered googling but a fair percentage of those released end up up to no good ie what they are presumed to have done. And really travel from Africa to Afghanistan hooked up with a terrorist group but doing the whole i was lied to i wanted no part of it is a piss weak excuse after all the SS gaurds at auscwitz use the same argument. Plus the whole i going on a hunger strike because of the undignified conditions oh the horror off food on clothing and this coming from a dude who uses his hand to clean his pooper, ill say again cry me a river.nicolas10 wrote:The point is the guys are being detained without trial.
And i would care if it was a native Afghan here personally i would consider then not quiet freedom fighters but heading towards those lines

nic makes a very valid point that few Americans seem to grasp. If we can do this today to 'terrorists', 'cancers', whatever.....what is to prevent a future administration or government from declaring 'gun rights advocates' or 'environmental activists' or whatever group to be so dangerous to the US citizenry as to justify imprisonment without due process. THIS NATION WAS FOUNDED ON DUE PROCESS!!!! ....and, historically, that due process extends to everyone. Yes, we sort of fucked up with Japanese, German and Italian citizens during WWII, and at some other times, too, but by and large we have maintained the moral high ground on the detention of both citizens and non-citizens by the US government. No more.....to our eternal shame.
