I see Syria as the future of population control.
When the oil runs out and Humans starve we will
all be killing each other and eating the dead.
I will make a prediction that the lack of large scale oil production
will mean the planet Earth will be capable of supporting around
1,000,000,000 people barring environmental catastrophe.
So in about 200 years or less we will all be slitting each others throats.
Decimation? Nope, that is one in ten. Small bands or clans exterminating
the weak or un armed. Big population centers first. More like a world wide
civil war with less than 10% surviving. It's coming, and the Political
and religious attitudes are making it happen.
Nothing makes a Human more dangerous than starvation, except maybe religion.
We are the most dangerous animal in Earth's history.
Syria is an interesting experiment in population self reduction.

1 billion people, total? Gawd how idiotic. We had that many people, or close to it, before oil even became an energy source. What orifice did you pull that figure out of, Slappy, and can you please put it back?
