(does this mean the televised horse races from your fair country tonight might be
better quality than usual? How do you all celebrate? I'm thinking it involves beer,

Aussies tend to drink some beer, then the next day they get up for work, drink some beer. On the way to work they might have a bit of a fight, followed by some beer.
Then when they get to the school or college they lecture at, they have a beer, shout bonzer! strip bollock starkers naked!
And then have a beer.
After work, a beer, some barbie, some beer, write a novel or play some Aussie rules ( or both ) have a beer.
And then to relax, they tend to open a good book, have a beer, close the book, and have a cold beer ( just to be cosmopolitan ) have another beer ( which now makes it actually 2 beers ) and then have another beer.
At some point they shout ( between beers ) 200 years and more away from the Crown, at which point they head to the pub called The Crown, and have a well deserved beer.

Strewth Soapy not to far from the truth there except change the crown to the elephant and the wheelbarrow
And Slick was a nice day forget the horses the cricket was on just an odi but the Pakis got walloped so it was even better, and yes the day did involve beer it also involved a barbie lamb chops, snags, rissoles, onions, bacon, tomoato, along with some potato salad, pasta salad, and greek salad so between that and the beer everyone was sated. And since it fell on a tuesday this year would you guess that 500,000 threw a sickie on the monday and had a 4 day weekend

food sounds good, as does beer. Cricket, I could live without, but it's a cultural thing. You've reminded me, its been a while since we did a roast leg of lamb at Chez Slick. Yummm.
