Not only do I have friends in Northern Nevada/Southeastern Oregon I have family there (my nephew was one of the horseback riders you saw on the news) I grew up on a 6000 acre cattle ranch and we leased many times that acreage from the BLM,USFS, corporate and private parties. I know how it all works!
The BLM does not represent the people, they represent those that give money to the politicians. I agree with you to some extent that the guy in question is some what a selfish free-loader, unwilling to follow rules but that is only the catalyst to start the takeover of the land.
Now we have demonstrable evidence that if you try to lead from behind, eventually the guys up front will stop looking back for instructions.

And, still, the 'rancher' chose to illegally use public land. The only 'heavy-handed' response was to round up the cattle and get them off the land. The folks who made the situation potentially dangerous were the gun-toting loons that showed up in Bundy's defense.
Ya, spin that shit Slick! A lean on his property would have gotten the Government payed at some point. The only reason for the armed assault was Reid wants that land now for his own personal gain. A couple of days prior Reid's little bitch became the head of the BLM. Read the links I posted, you cannot get any closer than the local papers and people! Step away from the kool aid and look past the party rhetoric and you will see what is going on, be your own man for once.
his owned property isn't that much, nor are his financial assets, beyond the cattle. The personal gain thing is purely idiotic. How, exactly, will Reid gain from BLM land, that is designated as the home for an endangered species, in the middle of nowhere?

I repeat, DH, NO ONE IS TAKING LAND OVER. It belongs to the US people, and nothing changes about that. Bundy never owned it, NEVER. He tried to graze it, and not pay the grazing fees. He tried to graze on environmentally sensitive areas, and fought for that privilege in court. He lost in a half-dozen courts. He still refused to follow the law. He is an asshole, and more so, the people who showed up to support him are bigger assholes. As I've been saying, it's high time the BLM or some similar entity simply mowed these asswipes down, and then, maybe, we'll get past the idiot talk about bearing arms against the government, or other tough talk driven by easy access to guns and beer.

You know this how? Do you have a clue how much land he owns or what the market value is? I doubt it, just more spin!

It is not BLM land - regardless of the BLM’s — and by extension, the Obama administration’s — insistence that Nevada’s land was ceded to the federal government when Nevada became a state in 1864, the Constitution, common law, and relevant Supreme Court rulings have found otherwise. The bottom line, then, is that Nevada owns the land where Cliven Bundy’s cattle fed, and Bundy — who has preemptive rights for his cattle to feed there — has faithfully and fully paid that landlord the rent he owed it.

Bundy owns around 150 acres of his own(not very much), he grazes on 1200 public acres. Market value of his own land is less than $250,000.

how come every court decided otherwise? And over a half-dozen courts have heard this case.....

that was his claim in a court filing, Pud. I found the number a bit low, but figured he might lease other private land someplace.

 Slick...yer really demonstrating yer city boy side..... Ya can't/couldn't graze that many cows on 10x that acreage....
Maybe 15x with decent/average rainfall....Most likely 20x would get the job done...with the current drought conditions there.

Well, the Repubes abandoned this thread pretty quick after it became known that Bundy was a blatant racist.
On the other hand, NappyNappy must be beside himself with joy knowing that there is at least one other person in the world who is just like him.
