Stolen valor? Video shows two Marines confronting suspected imposter in military uniform
A recent video gone viral shows a pair of U.S. Marines confronting a man they suspect of posing as a servicemember at a Florida funeral.
The unidentified man, dressed in a blue uniform with "Davis" on the nameplate, identifies himself as a "sergeant major" when approached by two men in civilian clothes who seem to know far more about the military than their target. Zeroing in on the fact that his uniform featured mismatched medals and ribbons, they began grilling the man while one video tapes the encounter with his cellphone.
After the man stumbles over a few basic questions, the pair accuse him of faking service to his country.
"You know that's called false valor? It is a federal crime for you to be wearing that uniform," one of the Marines says on the video, which can be viewed here.
"No it's not," the man shoots back. "You can get out my face right now... because I'm a military officer as well."
When the Marines asked him where his MP card is, he claims it is in his car and then strides away, never conceding he's an imposter. The video of the incident, which reportedly occurred Saturday in West Palm Beach, Fla., was posted on a Facebook page entitled U.S. Army W.T.F! moments.
