The Federal Govt. has been trying for fifty plus years to obtain a "unique" identifier for all citizens of the U.S.
Slowly and surely they have been doing this....The Social Security Number assigned to folks, is a unique indentifier, but federal law prevents its use by other agencies for that purpose....even though idiot citizens, think nothing of giving it up for free on just about every form they fill out....

What the Fed's have been up to? They have an Automated Fingerprint Identification System, commonly known as AFIS.
AFIS assigns a unique number to each individual in the data system.....They obtain folks fingerprints through drivers license information...criminal records...federal service and military service.......and nobody is talking about it.....They have been accumulating this info for about 15 years...this to include juvenile fingerprints.

We don't need another Ellis Island.....I am all integrated up....put a 'bounty" on'em and export'em.....

Also it would help to have some sort of Ellis island system installed again, with obligatory learning of English, compulsory registration, and issue of documents and names. The Israelis do it, they have special channels and schools to receive immigrants from all over the world, they even teach them how to use soap, shampoo, tooth paste and how to behave socially, and it works perfectly.

Might as well. Our schools are being overtaxed by having to teach their kids english, at least if we're going to do that then we should do it for legals.

Did ya'll see how Janet Napolitano has sicced the Feds on Sheriff Arpaio? She doesn't like the fact that he's been deporting illegals and she's having them look into their "civil rights". He's refused to cooperate with the "investigation" as this is just a continuation of the shit she tried to pull when she was governor here.

National ID, they have it even in Peru, its called "Libreta Electoral" ( elections card), without it, you can not rent a home, you can not have a bank account, you can not have a home, you can absolutely have no job, you can not buy a car, etc...and the fun part is , if the cops get you undocumented ( no ID) they have the right to imprison you until they can figure out who you are, and if they can not figure it out, you go to military boot camp, and serve for two years, Jungle warfare against drug traffickers and maoist guerrillas, real fun and filled with adventure and deadly jungle critters, ....after that, if you are still alive, you can have a real ID.

but...If you don't speak Castillian Spanish, and you are illegally down there, they will deport you with prejudice, and charge your government for the expenses.


Also I know they have it in Germany, and France, and Holland, and England..etc...civilized countries have it...its easy.

sorry, but you might wish to re-read both the Constitution, and a myriad of Supreme Court decisions over the past century or two. Everyone has our Constitution rights, once on our soil. That is why terrorism cases end up in the courts, illegal immigrants get more rights and privileges than you feel they should, and so on.
You might not like it, but that's the law of the land. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way. I have no problem with the national ID thing, but you can take that 'locked up indefinitely/military boot camp' bullshit elsewhere, thanks. I'll take America, warts and all.

neither side wants it. And, the reason is simple if you understand politics. These folks are looking down the road. Yes, we have a lot of illegals in country, but that problem goes back for over 20 years. By now, lots of illegals have had children, and those children are (see 14th Amendment) legal citizens, once born here.
That fact, coupled with legal immigration and birthrates, makes it likely that Hispanics will be the largest voting bloc in the US by 2040, maybe sooner. Neither party wishes to get an ass-kicking for a generation or two by being seen as 'anti-Hispanic'. Thus, given the inherent wimpiness of politicians, neither Republicans nor Democrats, on a national basis, intend to really do a damned thing about really tough laws. And, that's the reality. Deal with it.
