...but this is an outstanding synthesis. Wish I could have put it this well when we had some real numbers of debaters here:

Nothing to debate, a blind man could see this!
Now we have demonstrable evidence that if you try to lead from behind, eventually the guys up front will stop looking back for instructions.
Government-coerced expression is a feature of dictatorships that has no place in a free country

DH, you've been on this board long enough to remember when people ridiculed the mere suggestion of most of these trends by me, haven't you?

Yes I have.

What do you think should be done to turn this around?

NOW, you ask the hard question, and you likely will HATE the answer:

The only ways this will be addressed are twofold--

1. Massive civil disobedience on a grand scale demanding a complete re-write of laws around money and politics, tax laws and social safety nets to tide over the transition. In other words, near universal demand for what you'd consider 'liberal' role of government in the shape of the economy and regulation and provision of minimal levels of food, water, housing and healthcare.

2. Very violent upheaval, which ends up either overthrowing the whole system or consolidating power around a dictator or single group. This course
is, historically speaking, how it usually plays out, and the upheaval essentially affects everyone, most badly.

Won't happen in our lifetime. Maybe your grandchildren's.
If the shit was gonna hit the fan in our times it would have happened during the 1% movement a while back.

the 1% thing was, IMHO, akin to the first scrimmage long before the real season starts.

Turn what around?

We The People are taking our Nation back from the commies. Now that's a turn around I can live with.
