now, if you go back and check, you'll see that I noted the above fact much earlier. It's a political reality,
and I really don't see it changing. Politicians, and parties, can read demographic statistics with the best of them, and nobody wants to be the group that is virtually unelectable in the next generation due to pissing off the Hispanic vote. Wrong? Probably. Ball-less? Of course, but that's what we get for not paying attention to the cash and vote whores we've allowed into office for a couple of decades. At no point here have I been advocating that giving any societal benefit to illegals is ok, in fact, I think I stated clearly that it serves to only blur the lines and make enforcement more difficult. But, what do you propose, realistically, be done about the status quo?? And, when I say 'realistically', please don't give some hallucinatory right-wing version of reality that won't make it through Congress or past an Appeals Court hearing.

Funny thing is, that most chicanos here lean a bit to the right. That whole Catholic thing dontchaknow...........Anyhow, most of them that I've spoken to hate the illegals being here. They are proud Americans and hate that people from the land whence their ancestors came are being a burden on this country and it's taxpayers. The majority of them hate that the illegals could give a feck about being part of this great country.

The problem is that the politicians are so far removed from society that they never hear the input of the hispanic American voters. They watch the news and hear a couple of loudmouths on the news and think that what's really going on. If I viewed the world by what I saw on the boob tube I'd have to figure that most of this country were homosexuals bitching about not being able to be married.

Chicanos are Americans of hispanic descent. My next door neighbor is 2nd gen American and is proud his parents emigrated lawfully and became citizens. They weren't allowed to speak spanish outside of the house. It was considered disrespectful.

I explained this before, but will rehash it for you quickly. The math works like this: 14 million illegals in country, about 10 million Hispanic. All children born to them in the US automatically become citizens, and thus able to vote. Thus, all demographics point to a 35% Hispanic voting populace by 2025, more by 2040.
As Ruggie points out, it is not a monolithic vote, but politicians are deathly afraid of being painted as being
"anti-Hispanic". So no, illegals do not vote, but several million who WERE illegal, got amnesty under Reagan,
and millions more children will be legal voters in the coming years.

a lovely, heartwarming tale. Now, relate this to recent election data on voting trends. and it might prove to be something more than that.

Fact Sheets and Other Resources

Analysis of the March 2005 Current Population Survey shows that there were 11.1 million unauthorized migrants in the United States a year ago. Based on analysis of other data sources that offer indications of the pace of growth in the foreign-born population, the Center developed an estimate of 11.5 to 12 million for the unauthorized population as of March 2006.

In the March 2005 estimate two-thirds (66%) of the unauthorized population had been in the country for ten years or less, and the largest share, 40% of the total or 4.4 million people had been in the country five years or less. There were 5.4 million adult males in the unauthorized population in 2005, accounting for 49% of the total. There were 3.9 million adult females accounting for 35% of the population. There were 1.8 million children who were unauthorized, 16% of the total. In addition, there were 3.1 million children who are U.S. citizens by birth living in families in which the head of the family or a spouse was unauthorized.
About 7.2 million unauthorized migrants were employed in March 2005, accounting for about 4.9% of the civilian labor force. They made up a large share of all workers in a few more detailed occupational categories, including 24% of all workers employed in farming occupations, 17% in cleaning, 14% in construction and 12% in food preparation.
