I dig the theatre although the pseudo rome stuff and the rest don´t appeal to me. But hey, if your Boss wants it like that :D Good work, Rugg.

Soapy, Nuf: The house is kind of a theme house. The master bedroom was inspired by the bedroom scene in Gladiator. There's a guest room that's red and fauxed with black glaze that's really cheap and sleazy looking. It was modeled off of the theme hotel in Houston (IIRC) called Hotel Za Za. There's an area outside of the theatre that has a bar (there's 5 bars in the house) that has the tiles same as the movie theatre but the couch is leopard and black and they're installing a stripper pole. The entrance to the house has two staircases that curve up to the second floor and there's a dome with fabrics hung that is inspired by one of the fight scenes in The Matrix. The office is all wood, there is no venetian plaster or regular wallboard exposed, it's just plain sick. Ceiling is wood as well. All high dollar cabinet work. His desk is huge, it's kind of triangle shaped and it has 3 hand carved legs that look like the legs of a griffin. Desktop is the largest piece of granite I've ever seen. It's about 2.5 inches thick. No expense was spared. There's a fireplace as well. In a city that sees 100+ degree temperatures 6 months out of the year. His computer screens are motorized and hide in his desk. The guest house is 2000 sq. ft and has a 3 car garage. It has a "two story" pool. Main pool is on the second level, which waterfalls into a lower pool. Behind the waterfall is a grotto with a fireplace and big screen TV. The house will have solar, but not for electricity generation. It's to keep the pool at the same temperature year round. There's also a boat house. I'll grab some more pix from my cell phone and post them. You can see almost all the way across the city from the upper pool level.
He also bought the lot next door to him so that no one will build there and spoil his view.

way over the top tacky, if you ask me, but as someone else said, if that was what was requested.....It fairly screams nouveau riche. Good of him to spend his money, in this economy, though.
At any rate, the workmanship looks to be first-rate, so congrats on your part, Ruggie.

Hey Rugg, I never would mock the workmanship, just the design :)

If I ever have a large amount of cash, I would get Dawg to make me a guitar ( just the body, I have another guy to do the electrics ) and you could do my house, but it would be a functional and well made interior, ( not a pimp palace :)

I'm really impressed that you can make that. 8-)

I could also do your guitar. Here's my Strat:

I agree Slick, the house is over the top but I suspect that they built it more for their fundraising parties than anything else. It will probably be their primary residence but they own 4 others. I've found in my line of work that money may be able to buy anything you want, but taste is acquired and no amount of cash can give you that.

I sent your initial photos out to a couple of friends(hope you don't mind me grabbing them), one a scion of one of Louisiana's oldest families(redoing a Missisippi ante-bellum as primary residence) and the other an old New England type with homes in NYC and on the Cape(currently being restored). I titled the email--"redecorating ideas". I think both are still laughing. Best comment was from my southern pal, who noted a clear Hunter Thompson influence in the interior design.

Like I said, your work in top-notch, but the home owner's taste is beyond terrible. Fund-raising? From whom, for what, dare I ask? I suppose he is welcome to piss away his finances any way possible, but to do this to a Frank Lloyd Wright structure is near criminal.

edit--just re-read initial post w. pics. Wright is just name of road, hopefully not designer of home? Was this new construction?

More pix:

Couple more shots of part of the master suite, spent 4.5 hours today airbrushing and fauxing light switch covers and electrical outlets/plates.

The illegals who grouted the tile fucked up one of the walls (not pictured). I'll be backcharging their company. There's no excuse. My partner was there yesterday wiping wet grout off the walls and explaining to them to be careful. Typical..................
