How far the brim sticks out from the hat.
I don't like a hat with more than a 3" brim.

Oh, and the hat brim, at the widest point, was 3 1/8 in. It sort of has a flat arc in the front, so most of the brim is around 3 inches, with widest spots on the corners of the brim.
