I was an FFL holder for many years. You don't buy a bunch of guns w/out the FFL holder sending ATF paperwork before the sale is done. You'd be surprised at how low the number is. Additionally, every locale in the country is required by Federal law to background check the person buying the weapons. Here in AZ there's a division set up in the Sheriff's Department that does specifically that. Some locales have a 5/7/10 day waiting period. Sorry to inform you Slick, but you do not buy a firearm unless you have proper documentation. Additionally, I've had the Sheriff Department tell me they couldn't find any info on the person trying to purchase the firearm, so it's no sale.

You don't have to take my word for it. Dawg has an FFL cuz he makes gun stuff and is required to have one, legally. He also has to track serial numbers/owners of the firearms he works on. He'll tell you the same thing I'm telling you.

Next time you try to bullshit someone, make sure you have a modicum of real information and make sure that the people you're discussing things with haven't walked the walk and talked the talk....................

Laws regulating personal sales vary tremendously state to state.
In Massachusettes for example you MUST go through a
licenced gun dealer. Problem there is criminals simply ignore that issue.
Here in Newhampshire a personal sale is cash and carry.

Funny how Mass has a huge violent crime problem and NH has far less
on a per capita basis. Simply put, gun laws don't work.

Fatman....

Since 1968 all new manufacture weapons have a "paper trail"...at least initially on first purchase....If a person buys or sells more than (I believe, not sure) 10-12 fire arms per year, that person is required to have a Federal Fire Arms License and must continue a paper trail on weapons bought and sold, to include their own personal weapons....Other laws have been enacted since 1968 to include mandatory criminal background checks and further restrictive laws enacted on a State by State basis.....In other words, it ain't easy to go out a buy a "shit load" of guns from anybody and take them to Mexico or anywhere else...and you can't do it legally.... It is difficult as hell to do it illegally. Yes, face to face sales in many states do not require "paper work" in regard to a few sales of fire arms....in order to accumulate any quantity of firearms, one would have to attend many gun shows across the country and make many individual purchases...face to face...so, yes, it can be done, has been done...and no law will ever change it.....The current laws just make it damned difficult to cheat.... Most weapons taken/sold in Mexico were stolen from law abiding owners in the U.S.

Hope that helps your understanding of things here....

If you try to buy "several" firearms at one time the FFL holder will send in a form to ATF notifying them of the purchase. I won't go into detail how many "several" is though. I'd prefer that non licensees don't know everything the FFL holder has to do. I've personally seen several gangbangers get taken down cuz they bought too many. Not from me mind you, but when I was a youngster working in a gun store in Vegas. I had a visit once from ATF looking to see what my licensed premises looked like. He asked several questions and who I was typically selling guns to. I told him straight up that if it was someone that looked a bit too "urban" they could buy elsewhere. As is my right.

Can't wait for Slick to call me a racist. Maybe if he's lucky I'll tell a couple true life stories regarding sketchy looking people and gun stores. Hell, a couple even involved pointing a gun at someone who shouldn't have been doing what he did.

Ruggie, a question, that shouldn't require you revealing the secret handshake or decoder ring locations:
How much time lapses before the ATF can digest the paperwork sent?

Another wonderful opportunity to call "Bull Shit".......Since Rugg has never "copped" to working for the ATF? Why would you ask that of him? Gee, would it be a feeble attempt on your part to deflect the criticism of your statements?

Beg your pardon, Rugg........excuse me please......"How much time lapses before the ATF can digest the paperwork sent? " That's easy Slick, it exceeds your attention span...........

I know of one instance where the ATF showed up at the store 2 days after the paperwork was faxed in.
