I know you like black powder like me. Check out this guy at a cowboy shoot. Sort of reminds me of me. It will be obvious when the black powder shooter starts.
I love it.

Re: Wullie
LOL. Reminds me of some of my stunts "back in the day". Great fun!!
Imagine 6 thousand or so of men armed with muskets, rifles, pistols standing shoulder to shoulder and firing 2 to 3 rounds a minute! Along with all that throw in some cannons. Witness reports from Gettysburg said that rifle fire from a distance sounded like heavy canvas tearing all day long! It's damn wonder anybody hit anything until the advent of smokeless powder.
BIG guns and charcoal. Check all the Paulsen Bro's vids..

Re: Wullie
That's some good smoke.

Re: Wullie
My new Hawken comes Thursday. I ordered a bunch of Swiss powder with it.
I've been looking for a good powder horn and finally found what I was looking for. It's made from a Bison horn. Just right for a buffalo gun.
I can't wait! Oh Boy... Oh Boy... Oh Boy....

Re: Wullie
Lookin for a powder horn? WELL SHEE-IT!!
Make your own!!

Made both those horns about 20 years ago. "scrimmed" it too. Had another BIG horn that held nearly two lbs of powder. Gave it to a friend. It was made from a really light colored cow horn and you could see the powder level in it because it was translucent.
Fitting the base plug is the hardest part.. Just get it close, pin it and pour the end with a about 3/8" of pure beeswax. Use a fiddle key for a stopper for some real class. I had one in that horn I gave away and had one in this one too, but it got loose so I turned that plug in the drill press.
Buffalo horns are neat if you can get one with a big enough curve that it doesn't poke ya in the side.
Post some pics of the dumplin when you get her de-greased.

Re: Wullie
Nice horn. Maybe i'll make one later. I need one fast for now. They want $125 for the one I want. We have big heards of buffalo about 25 miles from me. I'd like to get my own, but i'd get shot if I tried.

Re: Wullie
$125???
For FUCK'S Sake!!
Post some pics of it when you get it.
Maybe I need to get some old horns and get busy. LOL

Re: Wullie
It is kind of pricey, and i'll have no sense of accomplisment. Maybe i'll buy a cheaper one, and try to find a horn to build myself.
If i'm playing the part of an 1840 mountain man. I should learn to do everything myself. I'm working on making a bowie knife right now. Next i'm going to cast the lead balls for the Hawken. I found some pillow ticking to make patches.
Lots of projects to come.
