Sure, Canada's heath care system needs reform. But it is not bankrupting our country and it does
not do a poor job. Canada is currently listed 3rd in the world in health care. (i believe America is ranked 13th...but I'd have to look it up) Any Canadian can walk into any hospital with any medical condition and recieve care without bringing a cheque book or credit card with them. Can 44 million Americans do that? I think not.
The heath care system in America is FUBAR.

I have several Canadian friends who come to the U.S. to get real health care as they call it. 6 months to get an appointment under the Canadian system. Two of them are Mounties, not that it makes a difference but I just like saying Mountie.

now that we have Rugg's Mountie fetish out in the open......let me return to this one:
Tolwyn wrote:Healthcare in America is fine.
By what measurement, Tolwyn?? Life expectancy? Nope, about 30th in the world. Or, is that 'fine' with you?
Infant mortality?? 50th, behind freaking Cuba! Fine with you there, as well?? No one is suggesting that everything be 'fair', in the sense of completely equal. Those who can afford better care will always be able to buy it. It's just that, in this day and age, in a nation with our GDP, for any of our citizens to lack basic coverage is wrong. For people to go into bankruptcy over healthcare costs is wrong. For people to die because of lack of coverage is wrong. The whole concept of public health as a marketed commodity is damned near obscene. Most of the rest of this planet understands that very important concept. We don't, as a nation, and until we do, Healthcare in America will not be fine. It will be, to quote Tarentino in Pulp Fiction, "Pretty fucking far from alright....".

Slick why the hate against america?
where does the majority if break thru's, advances in medicine for the world come from??? France? Canada? Spain? the UK?
you know why we are 30th on that list you found (I cant find those numbers)
because of our lifestyles, we eat rich foods, our children play on video games, and fancy bikes, our old people dont have to work as they have been retired for years and years and years, we watch movies, and play on computers, we drink too much, we drive everywhere, we ride, our jobs pay well and allow us all those things that are bad for us, we fly, we boat all over because of the luxurious surroundings, our poorest here - the bottom of the Mississippi river basin, the inbred cousins of yours in the Appalachian foothills, are still WAY better than the rest of the worlds "poor"
why do you think we are 30th on the list, because of bad health care??

that has to do with our traditional strength in basic, academic research. One which, I fear, we are starting to slip in, as well. Note the outflow of top talent in some of our research universities. I don't express my views out of hate for the US, but a love of what this nation is and can be. We've never been great by failing to move forward.

and the above impact infant mortality, how? Trust me, we have a dreadfully inefficient model for delivery of health care. That has nothing to do with breakthroughs, state-of-the-art care, etc. We just waste a ton of money, because too many folks along the chain expect to wring profit out of the system. We resist single-payer out of fear of taxes, and still pay ridiculous insurance premiums. Folks get the heebie-jeebies when talk turns to 'rationed care'.....what the hell do you think HMO's do for a living?? Basically, if you are trying to argue that all is fine now, you don't have a clue. If you think we cannot, as a nation, do WAY better, it is you who 'hates' America. Thank goodness that 61% of all americans support Universal Healthcare(2 recent polls), we might just get something of value done to move the process out of the status quo we've been screwed by.......

Jesus.
The people that CAN NOT afford healthcare get treated for free anyways. By coming into the ER for every little fucking sliver and headache. And they EXPECT that you help/treat them.
THAT raises insurance premiums across the board.
FORCING people to pay for healthcare is idiotic, because the same people that don't have it / can't afford it NOW are going to continue to do the SAME FUCKING THING. It's not like you can sprinkly magic fairy dust and make them be able to afford it after this stupid fucked up socialist bill passes.
This country's gov't is not intended to make sure your life is cozy. This is the land of opportunity, not entitlement. This gov't's job is NOT to do better than that, but to stay the fuck out of the way.
Bunch of wellfare, free care-seeking entitlement whackos.
You're not entitled to a happy life in this country. You're only given the freedom to pursue one. Why do liberals try to fuck up that founding principle?

you miss the point completely. The people who cannot afford healthcare aren't the ones truly fuxxored under our system. It is the folks who are a step up the economic ladder and deemed able to 'afford' healthcare. They are the ones who end up in bankruptcy court.

what a cynical view. Bring back the sweatshops! Oh, and tell Mom and Dad to give up that Social Security and Medicare, freeloaders that they are, right?? Yeesh!

No, there are people well below the poverty line that end up with huge medical bills too.
