R_D...I wuz just poking back..a little.... ;)

Though, on a serious note...Those with "National Health Care" in the world?
Should give some serious thought to their country's "economic situation" and
apply that? To, factor in, their health care costs...and possible cost reductions,
that are surely coming....Not taking a shot at ya R_D, Canada and England come to mind....

With the longevity of humans increasing?
The costs to governments and individuals, of health care, is going to increase, dramatically....

Google Japan's population, prosperity and weigh in the "load" that their elderly population places
upon them....and Japan, knows? They can't afford it.

It boils down to this:
Every government, it's services, revenues and future is predicated on?
"The pyramid scheme"....meaning growth, in population, jobs, prosperity....
When that growth, ceases?
The "pyramid scheme" fails....
This planet is becoming over crowded...competition for the remaining resources?
Well, you've got a front row seat, right now.

The Japanese treat their elderly with honour and respect. They look to them for knowledge and guidance. They are considered to be a valuable social resource.
North Americans on the other hand tend to house our elderly like cattle. A social annoyance that has created a billion dollar industry. Shame on us.
Given my drothers...I'd rather grow old in Japan.
In Japan, the elderly are worth the cost.

And that's where the rest of your post comes in. Common sense dictates that a nation should care for it's elderly and it's sick. Whatever the sacrifice.
But common sense doesn't exist in modern politics. And it certainly doesn't exist in American politics.

Much truth to that....
However, the key words "can't afford it" unfortunately, are applicable to everyone...everywhere.
Japan being one that has examined the cost...and honestly related it..well, somewhat...and they can't
afford it...?

Can you imagine China?
With their population?
That's an ugly thought?

Sorta, the "Soylent Green" argument..morally reprehensible and mathematically?
Likely....

But that's just the thing. Japan can afford.it. We all can. We just have to make the right common sense choices.
But that's never going to happen until we can develop a system where politicians serve for passion instead of for power and perks.
