Re: Prediction
Barack Obama stepped into the presidency during one the worst economic collapses in this nations history. There's no easy fix for a situation like that, especially one that is beneficial for the majority of citizens. Now, add to that the out-cry for health reform, the outrage over military deployments (which is the cause of the previous president, in case anyone has forgotten), the highest unemployment rates ever seen, and Fortune 500 companies begging for your tax dollars to keep afloat, and he now has more problems to try to solve in four years than any of us will ever have in a lifetime. The Presidents job is not to put band-aids on amputations for a quick fix. His job is to thoroughly look at the problem, seek information from experts in every field, and then make decisions that will help or benefit the majority of American citizens. This takes time and careful thought.
Re: Prediction
Uh, Buzz. Unemployment has gotten worse in the last 4 years while he spent more money than all U.S. presidents combined. He gave it to the rich bankers and "green" companies and we're worse off now than when he took office. Sorry dude, if you hire me to run someone's business and it's in worse shape in 4 years then I gotta get fired.
And clearly you don't remember how bad the recession was during Carter's term, which Reagan brought us out of. Or were those the years you were locked up cuz then you may not have been affected.

Re: Prediction
It wasn't fixable in 4 years. It's as simple as that.
Do you think McCain would have done better with the tea party pulling his strings?

Again, Good point...Buzz.
I agree, the problem is so "big", Obama can't fix it in 8 years.
Then whut?

Re: Prediction
McCain wouldn't have added the massive debt that Obama did. It's quite simple, look back to the Savings and Loan problems in the 80's. The government helped the ones that proved they were acting responsibly and could remain solvent. The rest they let die. And it didn't hurt this country, it helped.Buzz wrote:

Re: Prediction
Are you sure? We'd probably have 5 more wars that aren't paid for. Republicans are good at that.ruggbutt wrote:

first off, the economic conditions in 1980 don't come even close to those of 2008(I lived through both). The fact that unemployment rose into 2009 when the economy collapsed 6-12 months earlier is to be expected, and hardly Obama's fault. The classic governmental fix, massive deficit spending was hamstrung due to the debt GWB had run up by not paying for two wars. Add in one half of the politicians rooting for failure, and Obama did damned well.
