Sure they have the right to ask but no one has to comply with it, it is not law and putting a sign up doesnt automatically make it so.

true enough, but if you don't wish to comply, they can:
1. ask you to leave
2. call the cops
3. make you leave any bags there until you comply
Note I said 'demand', not ask. That is their right, you are on their property.
it will stand up in any court in any US jurisdiction. And, like I say, where should there be a problem with that?
Shoplifting costs retailers a small fortune, larger retailers more than a small fortune. Why shouldn't they try
and keep loss down? As a customer, I presume you don't wish the loss to be passed to your prices, right?

Sure they can keep bags there, here they cant. And also i have been under the impression for years now but correct me if im wrong but dont the consumers end up covering this in higher costs

I remember in my area we used to (perhaps "used to" is telling here

) have "Consumers Distributing"; they would devote floor space to mostly high ceiling racks with eletric pickers for stock, the remaining area was counter and table space with dozens of catalouges, and several attendants behind counter taking order slips to runners to grab stock, then cashier out
only internal theft to contend with that way, and eliminates costs for store decor, maximises merchadise on site

Problem is that Wang-Mart has wiped most of it's competition out, we are stuck
with them. If you don't shop at Wally world, you don't shop.
There is a Target and a Sears in the area, but they are a skeleton business.
Wally-World and their Chineese suppliers are destroying AMERICA.
