so, the world running to totalitarianism in response to justified economic fears is a GOOD thing? Because, DH, that is all you are seeing: the very BEGINNING of response to a global jobs crash over the next 5-10 years. See my post regarding Amazon's grocery model.

Now that is a large stretch, tin foil hat too tight?

Removing a hand full of checkout clerks will not cause the world to implode!
Now we have demonstrable evidence that if you try to lead from behind, eventually the guys up front will stop looking back for instructions.

not at all. Denial too strong? What the hell do you see when you look closely?

don't get it, do you? That is, as my pal at Intel put it, the 'tip of the iceberg' We are on the verge of losing 80% of ALL JOBS in under 10 years.
Get your head around that, any way you need to. The world has to, or we are toast, and likely(from the current political response) ripe for totalitarian rule. Not that it will help matters a bit, but.

dream on. They will NOT be replaced by anywhere near the equivalent jobs. A good example a friend of mine cited about a 1 for 20 swap to fill the needed very high tech jobs along with the lower tech support positions in a manufacturing environment. Similar tradeoffs in retail, warehousing, transportation, shipping, and you start to grasp the scope of the issue, and all-virtual voice customer service contact isn't that far from reality according to geek friends, either. It's a brave new world, and the investors own the control of it. How they choose or are forced to spread the wealth will be the SOLE social question ahead.

you see, DH, you can call me all the names you want. Go look into the topics I raise, get back to me, and tell me that I'm some sort of Liberal Narcissist. Understand, investing in this sort of stuff is how I make money for myself and my family. So, feel free to deny, avoid the reality, urge walls to be built, wagons to be circled. Bottom line is that if you are not among an educated elite, a unique creative talent, or a professional in law, medicine or investments, the job pool left is a race to the absolute bottom. And, with a regime shaping up determined to attack the feeble support systems we currently maintain(SS, Medicare, Medicaid, etc), we'll be in piss poor position to suddenly reposition the tax code and legal code to maintain 80% of you all with no real income capable of living on. It is suggested that we go to a national living wage, or some such. I don't know, too soon to make that call, but almost getting too late to avoid looking at options any longer.
