On to a more serious note.....
Cradle to the grave health care. You don't have a say in either.
Look at Japan?
Their longevity is startling. They have a known problem in their system.
They can't afford it. They do not have the population to support their system.
It will fail. The math says so and they reluctantly admit it.
What do you think their options are?
Rationing?
Total financial collapse?
Borrowing is out of the question, they are in worse shape than us.
Sorta reminds me of the "lifeboat" situation....first it's volunteers...then it's push
and shove.
Not to mention little things like.....
Your wife is pregnant...tests show the baby has a bad heart or some other
serious but "survivable" malady... You and your wife say.."it's God's Will" and
we're going to do our best to raise the child. Whoa! The Government steps in and says...."It's to great an expense on our system. You'll have to abort." "It will not be covered" "You'll have to get your own insurance or pay out of pocket" You are rightfully pissed off. You are told you can appeal it. You find out the "appeal process" takes two years. Good Luck with Government Health Care....while your not allowed to have your "special" child....the crack hoe down the road, can have twenty, at our "shared" expense.
Now, some folks might wanna say....hey, that's BS, cuz crack hoes are having twenty kids now.....I'd have to agree with that...except, you can have that "special child" now and nobody can tell you different. NOBODY can guarantee that you can have that "special" child in the future, should you choose to have Government Health Care.
Or if, as has occurred, chooses for you.
This could be interesting....the denials that are forthcoming...

Oh edit.... I agree we likely do have the highest per capita cost of healthcare. But you know, that's like saying transportation costs are higher in the US compared to Cuba. Say the average American is driving a car, where a Cuban would be lucky to have a bicycle... but they 'win' on cost...

Gee, sorta makes a discerning person question the veracity/bias of said poll,
that ranks us 23rd? If that's the case? Why so many Canadians come here for
health care? Or others?

Sigh. Believe everything you read? How is it possible? Define quality of care and support it with ANY facts. Stating that a country has some kind of government owned and run comprehensive health care system is not a quality that has any value in itself... you understand? Kinda like the Cuba thing? You need to provide comparative info. I'm sure your knee jerk response to this will be to demand I prove that your unsupported statement is incorrect.

dude, look up any and all of the following FACTS:
1. life expectancy by nation
2. infant mortality by nation
3. percentage of women with access to prenatal care by nation
4. rate of fatality due to heart attacks by nation
5. providers per capita by nation
6. average wait time for emergency care by nation
7. availablity of dialysis services by nation
I can go on, but that 23rd in the world ranking isn't some random poll, it's a compilation of HARD COLD FACTS, compounded by the other FACT that we are paying 2-3 times what the rest of the Western world is, per person, towards health care. Add in the FACT that we are the only civilized nation which allows a citizen to go bankrupt due to health costs, lose all health benefits upon losing a job(until the individual has so little money left as to receive public assistance), and one is left with the conclusion that any fool who doesn't see a significant problem with the US status quo has his or her head up their ass.

We allow folks to go bankrupt gambling. So do other countries.
Insurance, of any kind, is gambling.
Who compiled the "hard cold facts"?
The U.N.

so, you think folks ought to GAMBLE with the health of themselves and their families? Nice. Tell that one to a laid-off worker who lost his company healthcare, and is denied coverage due to a chronic illness of one family member. What a hero you are! Generations of patriotic Americans bled and died to create selfish nitwits like you? They must no doubt be rolling in their collective graves.
