And I was talking about unions being worthless and I was discussing how they relate today. Before you start mouthing off about not understanding the written word you should read my post again. I clearly discussed the time frame and referenced your turn of the century discussion. I'm sorry you don't get it. Next thing you know you're going to tell me that you've never backed unions in today's timeframe.

I liked Rugg's point.....Who needs unions? When ya got no shortage of lawyers around.....

Slick's point....If you're not thinking what I'm thinking you're full of shit and don't know nuthin about what I'm thinking.

Pudfark's point....If you're not thinking about the Who, What, Why and How of the folks that created this country and what they intended and wrote, you can't fix it.

Old Pudfark sez: " Fortunately for us, Progressives can't inherit common sense, though they do have a way with a word and the ignorant "

Pudfark sez: " Sorta like common sense and hard work vs vocabulary and caviar "

well, I've said, repeatedly here, that Unions have, oftentimes rendered themselves ineffective due to leadership that loses sight of the long-term interests of the members. I'll accept that my position is too nuanced for a nitwit that can only think in black and white(Unions-Bad, Obama-Bad, Mexicans-Bad, come to think of it, what do you find to be good in life?). Still, I'll persist in my way of thinking, thanks.

I suppose the first step is to realize that those folks were Radical Progressives of their time. Extremely radical, actually.

No Slick, they did not hold themselves out to be "radical progressives"...that is a name that you have ignorantly assigned them in an attempt to elevate your position on Teddy Roosevelt and the beginning of the "progressive movement".....which, by the way is approaching "peach seed speed" as November nears..........

of course, they didn't call themselves that, but it is EXACTLY what they were. They acted in the interest of the population, were forward thinking in both rejecting the concept of monarchy and establishing a completely new system of governance. They were Radicals, Progressive thinkers and Activists, yet you use all three words out of ignorance to bad-mouth your fellow citizens. You don't deserve the Constitution you got from those great men, as you embarrass them every time you display your ignorance and hatred for your countrymen.

You're half right. Obama is bad for this country. Look at the debt he put us in. Don't ask, I told you what I'd have done and it already worked once under Reagan. Mexicans aren't bad. Illegals are. Get the facts straight, son.

indeed you do, if you really agree with that statement. Think about where your basic worker's rights and levels of compensation come from, and you'd probably have to thank a Union effort in the past. As for the present, like I said, Unions have frequently(but not always) rendered themselves irrelevant. Doesn't equate to worthless, just not needed as much in the here and now. Don't worry, a lot of folks are working real hard, worldwide, to make Unions necessary again. The Tea Party, for example.

Thanks unions, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Now we have things like minimum wage and workmen's comp, SSI, etc. The gubmint has taken those things over so (I say again) unions are irrelevant and hurt this country more than help it.
