Yes, when you quote me in your post. I think you're talking to me. If you change that in your post. Then address it to Slick from that point on. I'm not a mind reader.
I think it will rank right up there with Satan being God's Wife and yet satan is called The Prince of the World and the Son of Perdition, both Male in their make up
"In reality, there exists only fact and fiction.
Opinions result from a lack of the former and a reliance on the latter."
well, the concept of Hell is common to the Abrahamic religions(Judaism,Christianity, Islam), but not really prevalent in others. Given the feeling of some philosophers that the function of religion is to keep social order, the idea of an eternal punishment seems as useful as the promise of eternal reward(Heaven). Another view of religion is as explanation/reassurance of man's fear of Death. For that end, a lack of heaven, as in the Hindu idea of perpetual reincarnation would seem appealing. The third strain of 'explanation' of the development in man of religion is to merely explain the unexplainable, or unknown. For that end, I always thought the Bhuddists had it right: find inner peace and stop worrying about it.
Now, mind you, the true believer of any of these is going to say that the true purpose of religion is that it is the will of God(or the Gods), but then, why did man develop so many variations, so many relgions? If there is but one true God, why didn't He(or She) manifest that reality to ALL people?

well, that settles everything then
I was talking about the Bible, but I guess you knew that. Didn't you?
I knew that. Which is why I found the statement to be sort of astounding. Doesn't the New Testament suggest that Jesus sought out those least likely to be accepted as Godly, or worthy of Him? Why would a follower dismiss the chance for insight beyond his own from anyone else. Not to say you have to accept it, but to claim you know all there is to know, is sort of to suggest that you are light-years ahead of most Biblical scholars, or most Ministers or Priests which I've ever encountered.

I'm sure some of y'all are relieved that I have not entered the discussion.... .....and I won't....just didn't want you to think I wasn't watching....
Here is why I won't........This particular subject is about feelings, beliefs and interpretations...and to that end, there is no right or wrong.....just opinions....and again, none are right or wrong.....
Faith is an intensely personal belief. I have it. I'm very glad that y'all do.....
