A Complete Waste of Space

The Airforce actually wanted the "off shore" contract....
The reason being? They are sick and tired of Boeing not honoring their
contracts for the last 50 years...for example: HUGE COST OVER RUNS !!!

When EADS won the contract bid, they guaranteed the aircraft delivered
at the contract price. Something, Boeing refused to do.

Several years later, with Boeing whining, lobbying and bribing.....they win and
We Lose.

of late, I find myself agreeing with Pud more often. I either need to head to therapy or to the bar.....


Oh, and Pud, to return briefly to the solar project.....it sort of started with my toying with a few panels for the house and garage/barn roofs. Then, I talked to a couple guys who own land in New Jersey that utilize open fields for larger-scale solar panel arrays. Now, to reference your T.Boone Pickens remark, I'm not trying to build some massive array to make ol' Slick billions. I'm just trying to generate a little money from an unused acre, that won't be an eyesore to anyone(outskirts of town), can't be used for much else(drainage ditch separates it from the adjacent 40 acres of farmland we rent out), and maybe help the local electric coop keep costs down. Right now, I have no hard info on costs of install, generation or insurance on the larger project. My ten-year paydown data comes from the guys in Jersey, using somewhat older technology.
Still, the moment is a good one, as the tax incentives are in place and the desperation level isn't high enough to drive prices up for the panels and other hardware.

Slick...the thought of you out in the "solar patch" with a bucket and a squeegee made me chuckle...

Then, I thought about pigeons... ....then...

That's gonna be one expensive endeavor....don't mortgage the farm...

I would like to know how the project goes....seriously.

Pud you and Slick need to choose what side of the jobs issue you want, move them overseas or put Americans to work If there are issues with government contracts and our on shore manufacturing lets fix it. I read that the contract will put 35,000 to work.
When we are having employment issues here our Government sending there needs some place else is not very smart.

Darkhorse, I agree with you completely....The Airforce would love to agree with you also....
However, between the thieving politicians and their "bought" influence....Boeing's wonderful
business reputation and factor in the debt burden...maybe, there is not as much to steal
this time....one can only hope....cuz, them thieving POS politicians won't police themselves and
when the public tries....they are ignored...Reference the way Obama does business...SSDD.

where do these firms and others purchase their components from? You know, stuff like transistors, chips, boards, and the like?

Lets not forget of EADS won so would have Alabama its not like there were no US jobs involved here, and from whay i have read the airbus was superior in nearly every aspect, also the airbus is good to go right now and the boeing hasnt even seen a prototype yet somehow i dont see the first ones in service by 2017

pigeons pale as a threat beside some of the larger species of seagulls. Let's not get into pelicans.....

I suspect it might only be around $150K. Maybe 200, tops. I'll try and keep ya in mind. Now, if I lived down your way, I'd be talking to Mr. Pickens(who, I understand from a couple friends who grew up with him, is a real horse's rear-end, greedy as they come).

as I understand it, Darkhorse, EADS was committing to do the construction work over here in the US,
so the jobs thing is sort of a smokescreen. Further, as I pointed out, there seems to be little concern about the components for a huge amount of our military and infrastructure hardware being fabricated in Asia.
That, I find to be far more disconcerting, from a security standpoint. Going back to the plane in question, shouldn't it be about getting the best plane for the job required?
