callmeslick wrote:Soapy gets it. I saw an interesting graph the other evening(can't remember where or I would re-post it here).
It showed personal income, corrected for inflation, since 1990. For the top 5% of wage earners, it has risen
over 225%, for the rest of the folks, 1%. So, you're a in the 1%? The problem, and it's one I've been harping about for years, is the vast chasm that has been developing for nearly 3 decades between the well-off and everyone else. That growing gap eventually spells doom or at the least terrible troubles for any society that develops it. Could you prove that?
don't worry, Pud.....in time, this movement will firm up into a political effort. Not worried, it takes a lot of time to turn a fart into a turd. As with the Tea Party/Patriot movement, it will take time(that one took close to 3 years). Oh, and I finally went into Philly to talk to some of the folks for a while yesterday. You might be surprised, I encountered a very small number who are on the receipt of any entitlements. An interesting mix of urban/suburban types, students, senior citizens, all races
and some folks(like myself) who took off work for a day to show solidarity. This might have legs. Time wll tell. So will the tempature this winter...

Re: The "Change" we have been waiting for....
I'll gladly answer the first two, non-silly, questions.
1. Yes, as a wage-earner, I'm in the group that has only seen 1% growth, relative to inflation, over the past couple of decades. In my case, a bit more, but not massively so. I'd figure my real wages have gone up by maybe 10%, corrected for inflation, over the last 15 years of my career, and I'm in a growth industry. Now,
luckily, my income from investments, agricultural rental and timber sales has soared, as has the value of my real estate(non-residential mainly), so I have little to complain about. But, I am not claiming to be in the folks sinking, either. I see it all around me, though. My co-workers have, almost to a person, become far less affluent in real terms, with rising debts and less margin for mishaps and misfortunes.
2. Prove the point I made? Easy. Look no further than the French Revolution, The Chinese uprising, The Russian Revolution, the Arab Spring, or the rise of Hitler and Moussolini. All were created when the bulk of the citizenry grew poor, while a small number lived in luxury. In fact, I'd challenge you to find one example where such a gap grew and didn't result in massive upheaval of some sort.

To add to Slicks comments, this is not a single country thing, it is a global thing.
What you guys do or do not do there affects us over here and vice versa.
The last thing I want In any lifetime by the way is real revolt and uprisings. Generally its the normal people who get fucked in those situations. However what modern western people should realise now, is that something is going to change one way or another, and we might be close to the tipping point between Orwellian and Blakensian ( is that a word ? ).
The world is a smaller place due to communications. Some guy farts in Spain ( or on twitter ) and a guy falls off his bike in Peking. We are all fucked eventually unless we stop acting live cavemen with extended thumbs and actually do something.
If Aliens came here now, we would be ripe for the picking. Disparate, yet the same from a distance, all fannying about as it we are all singularly important.
And before the Commie stuff is raised..I'm a Socialist based on fairness and equality, which is also derived from willingness and ability. You can be a millionaire and a Socialist, as long as you earned your money honestly and without using people as commodities or fodder.
Regardless of the above, I'm surprised at how ingrained some people's mindsets are, always quoting from the same sources. Intelligent people allowing themselves to be sheep. We humans are a right bunch of hairy apes that just happened to luck upon fire and fermented berries, otherwise we'd still be sniffing each other's arses and jumping at loud noises.
Lastly, Americans, FFS, you guys took the rule book from the French, and made some of it happen. You have a written constitution, Great Britain doesn't. Your Country was built by free thinkers and people who did the do. Don't let that be usurped by corporations and shit TV shows. You are much better than that.

We're trying..........it's an uphill battle when you have a large group of retards (we call them Democrats) who buy the latest and greatest that comes out of the chosen one's (Obama) mouth.Soapy wrote: Your Country was built by free thinkers and people who did the do. Find candidates for office and elect them...like the Tea Party is doing...legally and in a non-disruptive manner."

I would disagree. That guy is flat-out mentally unstable and has been a consistent shill for the State of Israel for decades. He backs his opinions up with completely made-up 'facts', if one does a little digging.
