Don't buy a gun you can't afford the powder for it.
Pyrodex is the cheapest powder you can buy, and it works great in Colts.
Why do you think the Ruger can use any powder the Colt can't?

Hey Buzz, in all your shooting black powder pistols, like the Italian repros, have you ever had damage from discharging them, and under what circumstances (large powder charge etc.)? Still thinking of getting one here... maybe even "one of them pussy guns"... a .36 Navy. That's what my friends in PA called 20 gauge shotguns, I think that applies to the Navy revolver also.

Never had damage with any Uberti. Which is all I used. If you use real black powder you can't overload them. They won't hold enough. It's not like a muzzleloader rifle that you can't fill the barrel with powder. The revolvers only have so much room in the chambers, and still leave enough room to fit the ball.
I think a lot of accidents you read about in muzzleloaders is when some fool uses smokeless powder.

Which (smokeless) being what I meant by "other powder" earlier.
Would be interesting to find out...without destructing one (black powder cylinder) to
see, if they are heat treated any different...in terms of pressure.
And no Buzz, I'm not talking about using (regular smokelss powder) other than in an "emergency" or lack of availability situation.
So, Buzz...ya ever tried it and do ya still have all yer fingers?

Wild "Barfly" Hickok was known fer his prowess with a Navy Colt in .36
Then one day he met "Pee Wee R_D" Herman....and caught one in the back of the head... History has it...that "Pee Wee R_D" was found DRT (dead right there) grasping his weapon...and since then, it's been known as? The dead mans hand....job. "Barfly" was holding his Colt in one hand and cards in the other...commonly referred to now as "Aces & Eights".

That is quite possibly the most pathetic attempt at a slam that I have ever seen.
But then again, it's rather late in the afternoon and you are probably wasted.
