I'm actually suggesting spending 80% less money than is currently spent on the 'war on drugs', which is a complete farce. I'm not suggesting all of societies drug woes will cease, just that we won't be wasting money building jails, or wasting valuable law enforcement dollars to achieve nothing. Hell, I can well remember, back in the day, what a joke law enforcement for drugs was. The CT cops were rousting and jailing two-bit users, while those of us who were bringing literally pounds of coke and dope, along with tons of weed were a safe as little old ladies in church. Why? Because we had the cops paid off, we had the judges paid off. I got warned of a state police raid once 48 hours before it went down. Sat and watched 18 troopers parade up my farmhouse driveway to find.......nothing. The war on drugs is nothing but a war on poor people when you get right down to it. The gangsters and their smuggler buddies are very well protected. But, the cops get paid, the judges get paid, the prison corporations get paid, and....guess what? The politicians get paid. Real well.

Older, and hopefully much wiser, I now realize that spending a fraction of all that on rehab when people start to develop a problem will probably lead to far less of a burden on the nation than what we have been doing.
So, no, I'm not suggesting giveaways for the sake of giveaways. I'm suggesting sanity.
