nope. Then again, it helps when you work for the Governor's campaign and know the Public Safety commissioner. The trooper in question apparently had a string of dubious traffic stops and I was just the last straw.
My point was, however, this: a lot of folks give the cops power they don't or shouldn't have. The let their own rights be taken away. Sure, in a car, the driver foregoes some rights due to the 'privilege' of driving.
But, occupants of the vehicle do not. Likewise, folks out on the streets have no need to be all that cooperative, in terms of search or seizure, but many comply when it's not in their best interest. Secondary note, on the original topic: I see your mayor intends to contest the new law, and another county sheriff calls it an embarrassing joke. This thing, as I noted, might end up backfiring.

Our Mayor is a joke. Not sure what Sheriff you're talking about but if he thinks that being able to check the legal status of someone an officer comes across then he's an idiot as well.

Damn your arrogant. (But that qualifies you to be a Democrat).callmeslick wrote:ruggbutt wrote:Bullshit.callmeslick wrote: He's no longer a PA state trooper.

The rights to search and seizure in a motor vehicle vary widely
from state to state. Here in NH the car is the property of the owner and a
search warrant is required for a search.
When you are asked to step out of a vehicle you simply close the door and
refuse permission. The cops usualy get their way in the end and obtain a warrant
rather quickly. They can also tow your ass and get a warrant later (personal experiance here).
In the Peoples Democratic Republic of Massachusettes to our south you
have surrendered your rights by implied consent by operating on any road in the state.

I'm still in awe of how powerful Slick thinks he is cuz a cop lost his job. At first he implied that the cop was fired cuz he "violated" Slick's rights. Then the story comes out that the cop was a bit of a wanker and the incident with Slick was just the icing on the cake. Either way, I still don't believe Slick got anyone fired unless he was on teh coq of the police commissioner. Then again, I heard Slick swallows.

same rules in PA, and frankly, Mass has no right to do differently. Implied privilege only goes so far.

it won't.....and the reason is that the law in question doesn't really address the fundamental immediate issue.fatman wrote:http://edition.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/04/30 ... tml?hpt=T1
Should go towards ending this coversation
As was quoted by a spokesperson for the state law enforcement agency:""We've had increasing concerns in this area about being outmanned and outgunned, and unfortunately this evening, this is coming true,"
Merely giving certain rights to the local police to roust brown folks does nothing to alter the above statement about the Interstate-8 corridor. That's why I suggested a massive human resource buildup along the border from Texas to California. If you don't outman and outgun them before they are in as far as Phoenix, you've lost the battle from the get-go.

I, alone, wouldn't have elicited much more than rolling eyes. It was my complaint, apparently following a large number of others along similar lines that got the poor schmuck fired. Face it, he'd been a state cop for 11 years and still hadn't been promoted to corporal. Let's face it, I wasn't complaining about the most decorated cop on the force. The dude clearly was using the badge to hassle people on some sort of trip(turned out to be political, but too long a story), and that's not what cops ought to be about. For what it's worth, I have a great respect for cops, in general. Society needs them, and most that I've ever known were honest and decent. A few I've seen took the whole power trip a bit too far.
Still, getting back to my original point, too many people forfeit too readily rights they ought not.

I noticed when caught in a lie or backed into a corner you start posting at an alarming rate.
Don't bother, most of us ignore the large bombastic diatribes you post.
