Slick for a "lay person" you have a more than decent grasp of the problems in confronting this issue.

Some of what you wrote, I like and respect. None of it, do I not respect.
In no way am I trying to pick apart what you have written.
Respectfully, a little bit ain't quite right.

For instance, in Texas, a person "known" to be mentally ill cannot, under any circumstances be confined in a criminal institution. Not saying you're wrong about California, just saying it doesn't sound right.

It seems to me, that the greatest problem to overcome is the "Civil Liberty" issue...Perhaps, that has been the greatest
hold up of all. However, in light of what occurred in Arizona and other incidents in the past, I believe, that enough documentation exists to change the current laws in "handling" mentally ill individuals that are unable and or unwilling to help themselves. To deprive someone of their civil liberties is very serious. The person(s) with the authority to authorize this must at all times be accountable and monitored very closely.

I am not in total agreement that an Involuntary 90 day period of time for the first manifestation of a psychotic episode is warranted in each instance. I would defer that option to the Doctor.

I have run out of time for the evening....not thoughts. I do feel strongly that one or two interested folks cannot possibly come up with all the solutions. The problem has it complexities, especially on a State by State basis....

The problem is reasonably solvable...not perfectly...but, in a manner more safer for all.

I did not want to offend you by altering what you wrote...it is for initial purposes, pretty correct.
However, with your permission, I would like to try.

Thank you....for your honesty.

sadly, it is. You can google that much.

good, because that's where I came up with the number. A couple dozen psychiatrists and psychologists to be approximate.
Thank you....for your honesty.
and thank you for demostrating that you can get better results with civil discourse. You might want to check out that No Labels thing yourself. Warning: Glenn Beck hates the idea. ;)

Here's what I find fucking funny. The left (who are the masters of political hate speech) are blaming political hate speech on the right for what happened to Rep. Giffords in Tucson. I guess they never learned the lesson from their teacher that "words can't hurt you". Because I've said some really greasy shit to people to their faces and they didn't even drop one heart beat.

So instead of blaming words, or a bad thought someone had how about we just take the shooting for what it is and realize that a whack job killed some people. The fact that Giffords was a politician isn't really germaine (or Tito). I never once heard someone say that the guy who killed John Lennon was a music hater............ I hope some of the more retarded (you can tell who they are cuz they're geographically east) can understand my analogy. Look up that word too. Analogy isn't buttsecks.

Ruggie, sad to say, you've missed the point. 99% of the population has utterly no focus on the words or anything else but the actions of the shooter. However, most feel that this is as good an excuse as any to lighten the tone and start to make a more positive dialog. Hating is for losers, and doesn't move the country forward, it's that simple.

Hating is for losers
That explains you to perfection Callmesick.
You spout hatred and envy at every turn.
Look in the mirror Callmesick and see a self loving boy
consumed with hate.
