you ought to. I'm trying to wise you up. It isn't the "Lefties","Liberals" and the like that are threatening
your lifestyle. You've just been hoodwinked into thinking it is. Someday, I have faith, you will realize I am
trying to do you a favor. Maybe you will be grateful.
The old saying...biblical, I believe..."The meek shall inherit the earth"...certainly seems applicable in your case...Slick...
I guess.....
What kinda smart rebuke ya got for the poor and misfortunate unemployed or handicapped folks? Ya know, the ones who didn't inherit nothing.....
they have my sympathy, and get as much help as I can get to them. I would like to see a government that provided a more comprehensive safety net, but somehow, right-wing loons keep making that effort damn near impossible.
Old Pudfark sez: "Slick, did ya inherit yer opinions also?"
some of them, yes, I did.

Your (socialist) definition of fair share is different than mine is. I really like the "or leave" comment though, that kicks ass. I don't leave my house on my days off if I don't want to. I find it amusing that you have no problems allowing people who are here illegally to remain here but you have the gall to tell someone who is born here to leave. You have your priorities all fucked up, kid.

I don't give a rat's ass how people get here. Our ancestors all came here from someplace else. Most of the time it wasn't a case of 'legal' or 'illegal', as there were few laws. The laws were generally the creation of xenophobes who are scared of people different from them. So your people came from Eastern Europe to flee harsh conditions, my wife's people came to escape the destruction after WW I, mine came to escape religious persecution. This nation is a nation of immigrants, and that is what makes it great. I just expect all that can to pay a fair share. A fecked-up immigration system stymies that, by the way. My pay, or go, comment, is for those who take the attitude of,
"I'll keep mine, and screw the rest of 'em". I have little sympathy for that. For more details, see my response to Pudfark.

Slick...you are finally getting on the page...cuz, you are right about one thing...what you give is not my business...and what I give ain't none of yours....However, to promote "giving" to "taxing" is my business and everyone elses business too...It's just a simple case....of word changing and legalities....and a butt-fecking...all under the guise of..."Its a wonderful thing and they can afford it".....So, Slick...Do you give yer tax money every April...or are you forced to pay it?

Tell me Slick...Why, I, who has never been a burden to anyone else, always paid my way, whose self and vehicles are insured, should be forced to do it for others?

I give it. I mean, no one has ever had to hunt me down for it. I doubt the govt would be amused if they didn't get their check every 3 months.....

It's a cost vs benefit thing. The Cost is Taxation. The benefit is a more just society, with a level of security for all. Not luxury, mind you, just basic security about food, shelter, health care. How does that society benefit you, or I?? Because, when societies get unjust enough, ugly shit happens. And, since my family has lived, in the open, on the same land, essentially since 1690, I don't want my descendants to have to build walls around it, or hire guards to keep the impoverished, starving mobs at bay, somewhere down the line if the trends keep going the way they have. That is the benefit.

sure, just know that the same folks own the train you're riding on, that always have. Now, I'll say it:

Nice response. Problem is that when your people came here, or your wife's, or mine they weren't a burden on the system and were actually contributing to it. I fail to see how someone who claims to have half a brain can't see what problems that illegals are causing for this country. Maybe not all of them but this nation is a nation of laws. And when my people came here they were sponsored, cuz that's how shit worked. But now we're seeing gunfire on the southern border, incoming from a foreign military and it can all be tracked down to illegal activity. Illegal drugs, illegal crossing, kidnapping, etc. Now I know in your ivory tower you could give a shit about what's going on in the 5th largest city in the country, but Phoenix is now #1 in kidnapping, with one case per day. All because of that ugly little border situation.

Your problem is that you don't respect the people in this country who are paying their taxes, doing the right thing and trying to live the american dream. You'd rather say "let the brown peeps cross the border at will" and you could give a rat's ass about how that negatively affects the economy, the law or the 5th largest city in the country. Because it isn't in your neighborhood.

Pudfark wrote: Law of Nature: "Survival of the fittest"...go ahead argue it...all you want...grave yards is full of them that argued it and it didn't change nothing for them.....

you know, I've pondered responding to this one since you wrote it. I figure folks will get all indignant with this response, but it has to be said, and I hope folks take it as coming from someone who sympathizes.....
I've heard 'Survival of the Fittest' or 'Darwinism at Work' arguments damn near my whole life. Most of those times, it was in conversations about some of the same stuff I've been discussing here. But, instead of hearing it in a forum, from a (presumed) working guy, I tend to hear it from umpteenth generation landed gentry in such Darwinian hotspots as the Clubhouse at Saratoga, '21' in New York, Galatoire's in New Orleans,
at Yacht Clubs, Country Clubs and Polo Matches. It is the excuse a lot of rich folks use to be able to live with the fact that hardworking folks get the short end of life's stick and they(the old money) benefit in ways most people never see. Why is this? It's because the same people have been making the rules for the past couple hundred years. And they feel they deserve the breaks, because by the mere nature of their heritage and birthright, they are superior. In another time, this was called 'noblesse oblige' and 'the Divine Right of Kings'. These same folks salve their souls by giving, often quite generously, to charities of their choosing, without giving any consideration to a disappearing middle class, and loss of the principles upon which the US was founded. I tend to argue with them, as it strikes me as similar to the arguments used in the French Court, about 2 or 3 decades prior to the courtiers losing their heads.
Thus, to hear Pudfark use 'Survival of the Fittest' as his mantra, my first response was to laugh at him. Then, I realized how profoundly, pathetically sad it was...........

Slick...that's just a fact of life....I didn't make it up and neither did you....everybody dies....them that do a better job of taking care of themselves generally live longer than them whut don't....That's a fact...and you can't change it no matter how much of mine and everybody elses money you want to spend....However, you are free to experiment out of your own pocket...and we will all watch.....and learn?

actually, if you eat all your meals at Galatoire's you probably WON'T live too long, but will die, bloated, with a butter-induced smile on your face. :)
