clearly, you don't get the point. My checkbook isn't going to get 'taken' by anyone that I see. I do see a risk if one of the nuttier factions takes over, and I have to kick in to fix their damage, but that won't happen.
You think my analysis was harsh? Take some time off in the coming weeks, and may I suggest a few road trips:
1. Head up to Saratoga, pay your way into the Clubhouse and go hang around the bar. See what stock they put in the Tea Party movement. Wear a blue blazer and tan slacks, it's the uniform.
2. Go and talk to the parents and students as they check into Phillips Exeter for another year of prep school
(this task is for you, Happy). See if the economy concerns THEM.
3. Hang out at the White Marlin Open in Maryland(I'll be at this one), and see how the Communists have crimped the lifestyles of the participants.
These are the folks who pay for the campaigns in this nation. Including Obama's. They aren't running out of cash, and don't figure to be. They know that so long as their kids get educated well, and cultivate the network that is politics in America, their families will be just fine. They would laugh in your face at your stupidity, as they know Obama will take care of their interests every bit as well as George H.W. Bush did. Further, they know the ultimate arbiters, the Supreme Court, have their back. You think it's some sort of weird accident that every last justice went to either Harvard or Yale?
The odd thing that seems clearer by the day is that the extreme right and extreme left are pissed off about the same sort of stuff: declining standards of living for the bulk of the population, loss of control over one's life, etc. But both groups are led by folks with money to make and jobs to keep by selling stupid, impractical, easy, blame-someone solutions to complex problems. Meanwhile, the rich just keep sending their kids to good schools, grabbing the best jobs, paying for access to the political system and laughing to the bank. So,as long as both groups drive the public discussion by focusing on stupidity(great links to examples, above, from the usual suspects here), and polarizing each other, the status quo remains. And, that status quo doesn't do a whole lot of you simpletons many favors.
You want to see change? Maybe, you might wish to focus on an amendment that sharply reduces the cost of running for office and makes third party and independant candidacies practical. That would be a start, but will never happen as long as the stupid keep driving the discussion.......
