easy, I don't anymore. Only did 800 for the shop(premium priced) and another couple hundred for my own use and that of my fishing buddies.

that should last you. Tie them in yellow and green.

Spring trout fishing was borderline spectacular. Massive bug hatches, possibly heightened by a huge die off of bats. Literally billions of very large mayflies mixed in with a few billion more small yellow ones. Fish exploding everywhere out of the water. Summer has brought real hot weather and has generally sucked for trout. Bass fishing and saltwater have been pretty good. I've caught a bunch of stuff. Two big striper trips coming in the fall, one a surfcasting tournament Thanksgiving week(cold water!). Hope fall trout fishing picks up.

the shuck is sparkle yarn, and the wing is made out of snowshoe rabbit foot hair. Thus, it floats, damned near forever, and will pop up when pulled under. Friends put split shot in front of these and claim they are killer pupae, with all kinds of air bubbles but I like surface action. Dead drift, popped under or hanging in the current downstream, these get jumped on. Landed a 22 inch rainbow several years back after a frustrating night, when I stopped with the rod under my arm to light a cigarette. The strike left a red mark in my armpit!

guncases are cheaper and work better than fly rod cases...just use common sense whipping them out at teh boat ramp

Anybody here old enough to remember a company called Herter's based in Waseca, Minnesota....I used to order all my fly tying stuff from them.....back in the late 60's.....They had the neatest catalogs.... Always wanted a split bamboo fly rod when I was a kid.... My favorite killer flys for W. Texas were the "black ant & variations" along with small poppers tied on #12 hook, with a cork body.... When I lived in Virginia, I tied a bunch of stuff on #22 hooks.... Forty years ago....memories.........................

Tenkara, thats what its called. originally for small heavily blocked streams, enjoying a bit of resurgence-
I dont care for bamboo- I have used them, fiberglass, carbon this, kevlar that- I really like fiberglass, suits my style of shorter distance pond/lake wading canoe shorelines type
but that little greys 3 weight I'm digging. a lot.

I love bamboo, and it's all I use. I never liked glass. It has no damping. Compared to bamboo. Glass didn't last too long.

However, that doesn't mean shit. If you like it. That's all that counts.

Hey BK....back in the 60's...I was told that the premium bamboo for fly rods was in China...as you know, back then...you couldn't get it.... Was also told that the bamboo back then was of far lesser quality... My first rod was a 6 1/2 Shakespeare (fiberglass) and later obtained an 8 foot fiberglass to go along with it....I have not fly fished in thirty years...I wonder what the carbon fiber stuff is like? Oh..well....
