"Critics say the evictions could lead to a rise in xenophobia among the French public France is to begin deporting Roma (Gypsies) as part of a crackdown on illegal camps in the country.

The 79 Roma who agreed to return home voluntarily will be given 300 euros ($383; £246) and flown back to Romania.

Some 700 Roma will be flown out of France by the end of August, in a move which has been sharply criticised by rights groups.

The French government says it plans to shut down 300 illegal Roma camps in the next three months.

The controversial plan, backed by President Nicolas Sarkozy, was put in place after clashes last month between travellers and police in the southern city of Grenoble.

The government says the camps are "sources of illegal trafficking, of profoundly shocking living standards, of exploitation of children for begging, of prostitution and crime".

I'm half Czech and I visited the Czech Republic in '05 for two weeks straight. They aren't fond of "gypsies" there either. They have a huge problem with Hungarians doing their pickpocket thing and even my grandma who was warned about it got hit by a gypsy. My mom remembered looking at him wondering why he was so rude as to be so close to them. They got her wallet which we got back (it was found in an alley behind the shops about 1/2 hour later) and only the cash was missing. They don't bother much with plastic.

Rugg, there is a shit load of them in the U.S. I had many "dealings" with them in my career....and hunting them with dogs......ain't a bad idea.
