Religion is this, an 'institution'.

An institution is a custom, practice, relationship, or behavioral pattern of importance in the life of a community or society.

A sense of belonging.

Christianity/Judaism encroached on the Middle East from the west, while Hinduism and Buddhism came from the east.

These two foreign cultures, encroaching on such a vastly different culture. Spreading their ideas, their morals, and their culture.

A spark of difference was bound to happen.

But if you look at this from a historical aspect, it's hard to deny that religion is not just an institution of culture.

Hinduism rises, Buddhism rises later, a middle way path of Hinduism, a different cultural aspect and look on life.

Judaism rises, Christianity rises later, a middle way path of Judaism, a different cultural aspect and look on life.

Heavily influenced by both Christianity and Hinduism, they sat along the spice road after all, those in the Middle East wanted to preserve their culture, so along comes Islam.
